Quite recently I was able to find another lost toy from my childhood thanks to Actionplus who
was selling both a mega rare header card and loose figure.
I always had a thing for knock off toys, especially ones that dealt with giant monsters that can destroy cities.
Actionplus was selling a number of monster items in his marketplace thread and among the pictures I
found once again "Super Gorilla".
I sent him my story about this rare toy (and about purchasing the one with the package) and he was kind enough to add as a surprise
not only the one I purchased, but the loose one he had as well for free.
I was extremely happy about this and thanked him greatly. Action had mentioned that from reading my minor story he knew it meant something
to me (which Super Gorilla did).
though now highly corrected and spruced up this is what I had sent him:
"I had Super Gorilla when I was very young (either 1980 or 1981)- I saw him as a rack toy by this candy/magazine shop close by to my Grandmother's apt in Flushing, Queens. I was a very happy camper because I now had an "action figure"-ish King Kong toy! However he was bubble molded and very delicate (picture the plastic holder for a Hostess cupcake- the plastic was just like that). The first one I owned I kind of dented to hell (I was only 7 or 8 years old then- the attraction of crushing this thing kept crossing my mind). Later on I was bought another and loved it (and did not smash him)..... but I also loved this baseball hat a friend of mine had and so in 1981 I traded him away. I had searched for years online or word of mouth and no one had or heard of this knock off kong (and in my memory I kept thinking he was called Super Ape). Then one day at a flea market by me in the mid-late 90's (this would be the one that was located in the Dutchess mall in Fishkill for those that know)-- one dealer had him sitting on the shelf and I grabbed it. I was so freaking happy. He is still with me now. I always kind of recalled the packaging and your photo confirms I was pretty close with my memory-- but more so for the fact that you have him with his plastic baggy and header card. I HAVE to have this"
So as another thank you I had mentioned to Action that I would make some diorama and have the Gorilla destroying a city.
Inspiration came and I used my Godzilla vs Tricpehalon toy set as the base and now made this "what if" toy. Which to be
brutally honest the Ape fits in perfectly with--
enjoy and thanks for reading
Here is my now Ape army ready to destroy a city near you.
These guys are a little bit taller than the Bandai Godzilla figures

here is my "what if" toy set in both a clean (well "cleaner") and a vintage worn version
both can still be fixed up a bit but I like it as is
