    Podstallions 14: Filmation Part One

We've probably mentioned Filmation in every one of our shows (it's our anniversay BTW, what did you get us?) so it's no surprise that Jason and myself are huge fans of the legendary animation company.

Episode one explore our earliest memories of Filmation and tries to relay the Saturday morning experience, look for a longer episode 2 in the coming months.

For now we touch upon the DC comics Superheroes, Archie, the Groovy Goolies, Fat Albert, Shazam!, bubble gum rock, dog toys and my obsession with Winnebagos.

Darn it, it froze at 16:47, and won't start in the middle after refreshing the page. Oh well, I'll try it again this weekend. Hey Brian, I hope you mention Mission:Magic on this...maybe in Part 2!

'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

We briefly mention it but neither Jason or myself had any substantial memories of the show. I'm unsure I've ever seen one. Next installment, I'm going to youtube.

I also want to preface that it's a miracle this show happened, between my personal problems and Jason's illness we were both kind of raggedy men doing this one. I completely glazed over Aquaman, one of my favourite Filmation shows, that's not like me.

Oh and BTW...the singing voices of the Archies are Ron Dante and Toni Wine.

            *Edit to add*

I just checked and there are no episodes of Mission Magic currently on YouTube.

Well, that was fun, as usual! I'd say I probably first noticed Filmation with one of these shows: Fat Albert, Groovie Ghoulies, Batman/Super 7, or the first Gilligan cartoon. Heck, I had that Fisher Price playset based on the Filmation designs!

I've been on a Star Trek kick lately, and have been watching the animated DVD set. Andrew, my 12-year old son, who enjoys TOS, seems kinda non-plused by it, but my Dani, who is six, is into it.

Having watched several episodes of late, I wonder if Mego's famous Kirk sculpt had a bit of the Filmation influence. The hairline and smirk seem to come straight off that model sheet Filmation constantly used. Heck, Kirk had the same look on his face in nearly every scene, and that is the look Mego gave the figure. Maybe they started with that model sheet, and fleshed it out with references to real photos of Shatner.

Dani also a big fan of the Groovie Ghoulies and watches that set from time to time.

They both enjoy Shazam! and it was a kick for us to meet Jackson Bostwick last year. A discussion on what DC has done to the character had Bostwick bring up Ross, and he had nothing but good things to say about his artwork and handling of the character. I think he did kind of hint he didn't agree with ALL of his artwork, but that was it. So at least he wasn't bad-mouthing the guy. Couldn't ask for a nicer guy to meet with. Very down-to-Earth.

That Schiemer book has been in my Amazon cart for a year now. I really need to get it soon.

My first experiences w/ Filmation (or as I like to say "Film Nation"), were definitely Archies, Batman and Aquaman.

I've never heard anything but that this guy is a gentleman.

I got to finally finish listening to it while stuck on the highway while the Gardiner was on fire yesterday morning.

Went to some dark places! Poor Poor Scrappy Doo, Tiny and 7-Zark-7!

I have to admit my fondness for at least some of the "Imps". Batmite might be some of my earliest Batman memories... even pre-superfriends.

I am a voracious podcast listener, I'm even part of one myself (Dinner 4 Geeks, check it out!) Without question, pod stallions is the one I look forward to each month. Keep up the good work guys. Ryan
