I survived the grand opening Biway

Never heard of Neighbours, but virtually all my Mego Superheroes (all three sizes) came from Biway as a kid... I'd hang out in the meagre toy section while my mom tried to grab door crashers.
Really want to try to find flyers of some sort just to see how much Megos cost at Biway back in the day. Back then, my parents were poor immigrants and hardly ever bought toys from the larger department stores. This would change for my youngest brother, as they gained affluence and started shopping at Eatons and Woolco.
I don't remember if Bargain Harolds had good toys or not, but I don't seem to remember loving hanging out there as a kid like I did Biway.
When Star Wars rolled around, I think we mostly got those at Consumer's Distributing.Last edited by samurainoir; Jan 10, '14, 8:38 PM.Comment

It appears there still might be a Biway left?
edit: Alas no... just checked Google streetview... it's a neighbourhood dollar type store that is just using the previous signage. It's the Biway logo, with "Zone" slapped on underneath it.

Across the street from my work is a sign that reads, "Bargain Harolds Receiving" . It closed down in 1992, I've been tempted to steal it....Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

They didn't have as a good a selection as Bi-Way, less name brands. They had those baggies of Modern comics Charlton reprints (stuff like Peacemaker and Thunderbolt) for decades!

just found this on a website devoted to Towers! Five bucks on a 12" Superhero sounds about right for what my parents would spend on a Christmas gift.

Oh wow, great find Ed. My mom took us to the Niagara Falls Towers all the time. I remember buying a pet turtle there! And a Dr. Steel! It eventually became a Zellers and then finally closed down last year...
The store hours on that ad are funny, remember when stores actually had to close on Boxing Day? Now that day is the Canadian Black Friday.Last edited by cjefferys; Jan 10, '14, 10:33 PM.Comment

I'm always fascinated with Canadian stores. I guess it's cause my only exposure to them came via TV (Degrassi Jr High) and I always figured they were made up. I love seeing all the flyers and photos you guys from up North put up. Thanks!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
