The overall pouch contains spare maps and 20-sided dice.

That is a really cool ad. I love the D&D scenes in E. T. The Extra-Terrestrial. Really takes me back.

Could someone please explain to me how playing Dungeons and Dragons equals being in a cult??? I have never understood that mindset.

Your kids are honing their strategic skills, planning skills, creative skills, and originality; being mostly quiet, not running around on the streets, or doing drugs (for the most part), or taking part in vandalism (I hope not!), and above all, staying occupied! Okay, so sometimes the homework doesn't get done.

But really! What was the problem?

The fact that most of the worlds involved demons, pagan gods, magic users, primitive conditions and attitudes, beefy heroes, geeky wizards, slimy villains and busty babes?

Science fiction also involves demonic type beings, gods, scientists, primitive planetary conditions and attitudes, beefy heroes, geeky science officers, slimy villains and busty babes.

Same archetypes and plots, different settings. That's about it.

Starting out you pretty much had to use the Basic set or you would be lost. I went on to play G.U.R.P.S. (which is slightly easier to play)

And smart. Good skills in math helped to. It took me awhile to learn the combat system. It was the game "the geeks and freaks" played when I was in middle-high school.

It made it a easy target.

I havent played it in a long time myself. Computer games like the Dungeons and Dragon Gold box seres for the Commodore 64 took its place as time went on. Didnt have to rely on a group and you could adventure without worry of keeping your character sheet up.

Good call. I'm sure ive seen it but i had pretty much forgotten about it over the years. I sure remember seeing Dragonslayer in the theater though. Those special effects were frightening and awesome at the same time.

Mazes and Monsters was just stupid.

Dragonslayer was a much better movie in my opinion.

Just to be clear, I was making a generalization when I posted that. Of course I know playing D&D doesn't make you a cultist. It makes you nerd

Again, I blame Tom Hanks, but he'd made it all up to me a few short years later with Bachelor Party... after that all was forgiven.

It scared me away from playing the game! Actually, that's not true. I tried it once and was bored out of my skull.
