Hmmm, which Star Wars figure do I want? Mom said I can only get one.

I didn't want to "steal" all the photos and post them here, so if you want to see more, check out this thread at the rebelscum forum. Amazing vintage toy store pics taken by Kenner salesmen back in the day. Almost entirely Star Wars toys, but you can see a few other goodies (didn't spot any Megos though). This really takes me back. Even in the late 80's I remember seeing walls like this full of ROTJ figures at Zellers (on clearance yet). I just want to step right into these photos and peruse the toy aisles.

A friend of mine passed these along in hopes they'd cheer up those who are feeling low about this Palitoy affair. They're photos taken in stores, mostly in the mid-west, by Kenner in order to get a sense how the product looked at retail. I don't think they need more commentary than that. You'll...

Oh my goodness. That's a beautiful sight to see. My kid brain would've exploded if I saw that in person.

      It's all good!

The last photo would have been at Sears. I would have been in the videogame section looking at the " Super Video Arcade" games thats pictured in the back part of the pic.

I would have been more into MOTU and GI Joe figures than Star Wars although I did like Ewolks. (So probably one of those if it had to be a Star Wars figure)

          Man o' man ...

Lately it's Megos that have grabbed my attention but I was definitely a Star Wars kid. I was 8 when Star Wars hit and I had to have it all. Underwear, bed sheets, toys ... George must have bought at least one car with all the dough my relatives spent feeding me with Star Wars merchandise.

I still remember one Christmas, the local Sears here had a huge Styrofoam Hoth diorama setup on the top of the toy aisle. At that time Han Solo in Bespin Fatigues was a Sears Canada exclusive and could only be bought as part of a set of other action figures. Well I had them all but that Han Solo. So my Dad popped the one off the foam demo, found the youngest employee working the busiest cash register and went up to her with this loose figure. Told her this was lying there and he couldn't find one in package. Took her all of 30 seconds to ring it up as a different figure and off we went. To this day that is still my favorite figure.

The one picture of the whole wall covered with SW figures is amazing. Those were the days when you walk into the store and buy the figure you wanted, since everything was well stocked up. Nowadays, you have to go through a scalper, or a middleman, or ebay, etc. Today: Target might have 2 pegs reserved for SW figures, which are usually empty, or have one or two figures.

I posted this on the rebelscum forum where these appeared, but I'll repeat,

I literally have dreams that look just like this. Even with the dark haziness of the photo, it looks very much like my dreams.

I like the fact that back then, you could still get a standard Chewie in RotJ waves. Or with Mego, you could still get Superman years after he first appeared on shelves. Now, if you miss a certain wave and didn't get a figure you wanted, you're screwed unless you can find an online dealer with one still in stock. It's like we forgot some characters will always sell, even without kooky neon variations.

O.M.G. My mouth just dropped open and I got tingles looking at that pic, lol. Not only all of those wonderful figures, but all of those carded die-cast vehicles!! I adore those.
