I Didn't Have It Then. I Don't Collect Them Now, BUT... I'm Still Nostlagic For It!

There are a couple toys from back in the day for which I still feel incredibly nostalgic even though I never owned one. There not even part of any lines I collect now but I still feel that rush of pyre childhood joy when I see one.

I know a lot of people collect Joe's but I do not. I never really had any as a kid but I do remember lots of friends having them. One of those gets-everything kids from down the block had a ton of GI Joe stuff. He had one vehicle in particular that I absolutely coveted. Today when I've run across the GI Joe Mobile Support Vehicle, I'm taking right back to being in Ronnie's basement and just gushing over how amazing cool it was.

Is there anything that you never had or currently do not collect that takes you back?

I did, until recently. It was the Remco Mini-Monsters. My frenemy up the the street, TJ, had them, and we played with them quite a bit. I finally caved in and bought a few this year. I now have 4 of the 6!

That's a good one, Chris. I have wanted the Remcos for YEARS now and just bought a carded Dracula a few months ago.

For me, I am nostalgic for LOTS of stuff, but don't collect it because of the obvious costs.

Captain Action has always enchanted me, even though Captain Action was before my time, but outside the Playing Mantis repros, I don't have any of the originals. I really ought to buck up and get at least a nice, minty Batman sometime. Maybe a Spider-Man.

I am super envious of all the people who've embraced the Lincoln and AHI Monsters. They are super groovy, but I can't venture down that slippery slope. We totally grew up Monster in my family, so I'm not sure how we never got any of these.

Even my Mego collection is modest. I have a few originals, but don't collect them to the extent I'd like to (That may change this year).

For the past several decades, Star Wars collecting has dominated my wallet, but I am re-evaluating how my collecting budget could be better spent to get the most warm fuzzies for my buck.

For me it's pretty much all the super-hero stuff from the seventies...we were pretty poor, but I did get a lot of comic and coloring books, and bubblegum cards, because they were cheap and gave the most bang for your buck. I remember pouring over the ads in the comics and especially the Christmas wishbooks looking at all the Megos, Super Powers, Secret Wars...now I've got almost all of them!

Big Jim for me; I only ever owned one figure, a bare bones Big Jack, but I always admired the amazing diversity and depth of accessories and outfits available for the line. The scale was an issue, as they wouldn't have fit with my CAs and AT Joes, or with my Megos.

I'd have to go with GI Joe Adventure Team as well. The only one I ever had as a kid was Atomic Man (and he's still the only one I have) but the whole line really brings me back to being a kid in the 70's, I guess due to friends owning them, seeing them all over the place in catalogs, stores and commercials on TV.

Hmmm...I guess Stretch Armstrong, and any of the monsters, (Lincoln, AHI, Mego), Jody (Country Girl Doll), Dusty (even though she's ugly), Barbie Styling Head, Mego celebs, (Farrah, Diana Ross, Toni Tenille, Cher), Marx Best Of The West, Original Captain Action, (though I do have one Playing Mantis, and one from CAW), Belly Whoppers and Socker Boppers, Slime Monster Game, Play-doh Molds, Fuzzy Pumper Barber Shop, and Fun Factory. Star Wars Bubble Gum cards Holly Hobbie and Raggedy Ann rag dolls. Let's face it, I'm pretty much nostalgic for almost anything 70s that I saw on TV.

Buy a repro one. If I had an extra I would sent it to you. IMO the best toy ever made. When they were re-released I gave them out as gifts.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

I need to add Fisher-Price Little People, Weebles, Inchworm, Marvel the Mustang and Digger The Dog to that list. Even though I was too old for most of those when they came out, I loved them and still do.

my pick, too. I had Zilla, but never got any of the robots. Had the diecast 5 inch ones and followed the Marvel comic.
