Man From Atlantis : The Lost Toys

An amazing update to the Kenner Man from Atlantis Page thanks to some steller contributions by Chris Georgoulias including prototype actions figures, test shots and internal paperwork from Kenner.
MFA was as close as we were going to get to a live action Aquaman series as kids and this is an insiders look at the cool toys we missed out on.

The Man From Atlantis was a pretty cool show. Probably would have lasted longer if it had been written by the same people that are doing Heroes, Smallville, Lost or 24 today. You could tell Patrick Duffy was in a pool for some shots. Instead of writing it as a unique character, it was the same old formula. Belinda Montgomery was the scientist-love interest. I remember watching it, and it wasn't really much different than any other drama on TV in the '70's. Can you imagine somebody like Brian K. Vaughn, or Jeph Loeb, or Kurt Busiek or Mark Waid or somebody like that writing a show like that? Or Six Million Dollar Man?

Can't believe that Man From Atlantis was only on for ONE season!! Then Patrick Duffy went on to fame and fortune as Bobby Ewing. Wow!

I remember picking up Starlog or something that did a whole piece on the TV Heroes of the '70's - Man From Atlantis, Wonder Woman, The Hulk, Six Million Dollar Man, Spider-Man. It was a fold-out, Bill Bixby morphing into Lou Ferrigno as The Hulk was the centerpiece. Wish I still had it. It was cool.

MFA started out as really well made TV movies in the Spring of '77, the ratings were high so the series was ordered.

The series was hit or miss, the writers ran out of steam super quick and all of a sudden he was a gun slinger or in Romeo and Juliet (!). He jumped the shark in half a season.

I loved that show, and couldn't understand why it only lasted a short time. I definitely would have bought a Mego Man from Atlantis if they had made him.

I liked the first tv movie/pilot, but this show went stinkaroo X 100 from there. As I recall, by the end he wasnt even in the water much, and when he was it was a bunch of rehashed stock shots that reminded me of the always rewinding backgrounds in the Flintstones tv series. "Didnt he just swim around that rock?...oop there it is again...and again...and again...hey, what the ...?"

I dont recall this lasting a season either? 6-8 episodes maybe, but not a full run....unless they yanked it off the air locally before the network axed it?

To bad the Scuba Squad did not get off the ground. I would have loved that as a kid, and probably would have collected them now....
