    70's Matchbox toy.

    Hello,

I recently buy a Matchbox Battle Kings Sherman on ebay and I'm so happy to have that toy in my collection again (the original was destroyed in action in the 80's, you know the dark age ), that I can't help to write a post.

BTW I was wondering if there's some other people here that enjoy the Matchbox 70's toys as much as I did?
So girls and guys did you collect them, had fun with them, have some god memories to share and maybe some photos?

    Hmmmm....

When I was a kid a friend of mine got the "Adventure 2000" Land Raider toy; and I've wanted one ever since. Especially years later when I found out it was used in the Judge Dredd comic.

    *sigh*

      70's toy

Cool, I think I had one like this. Not this one, but another tank set. Army/military theme toys were popular in the 70's. I guess because of Vietnam and all....

I loved that toy too. When I red the Judge Dredd comic (about 10 years after the toy appeared in the collection) I was very surprised to see they used it to travel the cursed earth. I wonder if there some other examples of toy appearing in comic???

There were not a lot of tank in the Matchbox collection in the 70's, so that was the M48 or the Tiger or the Chieftain? Which was the color of your?
WW2 was still very popular in the 70's, many toy brands had WW2 themed toys and kits, if I remember well.

I never did have any of the later matchbox Toys. I did however have 2 Matchbox carry cases full of the 60's matchbox toys. I used to have them stored at my parents house. One whole case came up missing when I lived down south for 11 years. I know it was my brother, but he would never admit to it. The other case I just gave to my only Grand son to play with now that he is old enough to play with them like vehicles, and not missiles...lol.

Love the MB catalog where they would have the battle kings on a diaroma battle feild.

Today I'm not too lazy so I scanned 2 pages of my catalogs.

This one showing one of those wonderful battle dioramas

Catalog's photos were true sources of inspiration to prepare my battles when I was a kid. I wish I could have some old photos of my "custom" dioramas made with books, towels, boxes etc... or maybe not finally

And this one for the Adventure 2000 models. Those toys were so shiny, flashy, groovy. And look at the package. Who could make package in such colors nowadays???

A good price. Old toys and used can be fun to make some photos.

What year(s) were these made? I am not very up on Matchbox stuff but I am curious how far away they were from the year 2000 when they made that future line. Someone had high hopes!

My scan is from the 1978 catalog but the line appeared in the 1977 one.
So you see they were imagining futur from 30 years far. Now it's "retro future" and sadly we don't have to wear frogged uniforms

You can find many informations and photos on the Adventure 2000 line on this website :
                        http://uk.geocities.com/vortx_produc...nture2000.html

I wish there would be more large photos but it's cool.
