    Mattel Godzilla Gang at AFI

I know many of you here are Godzilla fans, so I thought I'd post this in case you missed it:

I have absolutely no recollection of these at all. I do remember the Shogun Warriors, vaguely, but that's it.

    Hmmmm....

I don't recall seeing them either; but towards the mid 80's I found a few rubber Godzilla monsters at Biway. They were just under a foot tall, and looked like knockoffs. (I had the Gigan.) I thought they might have been these guys, but they're too small.

      I had them all.

Actually, I have about four or five of them still in my parents basement, IIRC. The grandkids break 'em out.

They were fantastic for rough backyard play. Rock solid. The Godzilla was the closest 70's era Goji figure design made until the Bandai renaissance.

There was another figure of the same scale that was a great representation of Anguirus. I think it was a Chinasaur, though.

I have a few pics from back then I should scan. I think I used the Dark Tower playset for scale...

Thanks for the link. I have the Godzilla in the set, but don't have much interest in the rest of the line, I'm not much of an Ultraman/Ultraseven collector. It would have been great if Mattel could have released the other Toho kaiju as a part of the line instead, but it's my understanding that each kaiju would have to be licensed separately from Toho and Mattel likely didn't want to spend the extra cash (probably the same reason why Marvel's Godzilla comic didn't have any other Toho monsters appear in it).

The Zilla from that line sits next to my printer along with a Bear Model repro Ghidorah from the original line of Toho monsters.

I almost lost it when I stumbled across these guys at Zayres. I also love the fact that the link in the first post, the header card has a Zayres price sticker.

If I do not count the bendies, this would have been my first true Godzilla figure. I soon got them all. At that time I had no idea who or what Ultraman was so I had thought they were supposed to be other monsters but with different names. For example Bemstar kind of looks like the baby bird monster from the film Gappa (aka monster from a prehistoric planet) or that Muruchi looks kind of like Titanosaurus.

So it then led to, just who were these other monsters? In my elementary school many a kids had thought Gamera fought some of them going on knowledge they probably made up- but at that time it was a strong possibility.

I also remember a few years later going to Zayres and finding a King Joe figure inside a Star wars Hoth battle box. Someone must of tried to steal him. The woman working there saw i wanted the figure and knew he was open and loose from the package. So she took the price gun and let me (well my mom) have him for 25 cents. Great post---they are still all here on display with a bunch of their buddies

Love these guys. I had most as a kid, though I never found Godzilla until I was an adult.
