They were always kind of cool and the cartoon wasn't bad either. I just think the came out too late. Early 80's and you've got something on par with MOTU, Blackstar, and the like. Early 90's and the fantasy genre was over with at this point. Turtles and Power Rangers took over. The closest thing to this show on TV was Fox's Peter Pan which was weird. Maybe Gargoyles. Whats interesting is just a few months ago I found a repurposed Skeleton Warriors sword at the Five Below. The art work and toy were Skeleton Warriors but none of the text on the packaging made a reference to it. At first I thought it was older but there was a 2011 copy write date on the packaging. I also remember hearing about a bunch of unreleased stuff for this line too.
