    Vintage toy ads: Japan style

We all know that vintage toy ads are cool, and recently I've started compiling a bunch of ads for 70's Japanese toys. I thought some of you guys might be interested in seeing some:

Captain Action did receive a Japanese release, unfortunately exclusive Japanese boxes weren't produced for them, I believe a Japanese language sticker was used on the US packaging. Oh, and although an Ultraman CA outfit was advertised, the general consensus is that it wasn't actually produced. But here's how the line was advertised in Japan:

Although there wasn't a CA Ultraman, apparently there was something almost as good:

I like bop bags, and Takara made a bunch. I love these ads of little Japanese kids beating the crap out of Kamen Rider and his friends. They are probably all pretty scarce nowadays, and apparently the Devilman one is a major grail for collectors of his merchandise:

And finally, here's a bunch of stuff Popy released in conjunction with the Toei Spider-man TV show, including the 9 1/2" figure, the ST and DX Leopardon Chogokin, and the Leopardon Jumbo Machinder (I really, really want one, but unfortunately don't have thousands of dollars to spend on one):

That's it for now, hope you enjoy them, and I do have more.

Credit where credit is due: I got a lot of these from the skullbrain forums, posted by "The Moog", thanks Mr. Moog!

I would imagine there are CA Ultraman prototypes out there, correct? I mean if they have photos for catalogs, they would have to be out there somewhere.

The Japanese always make the best toys. I was lucky and found the older Bandai Godaiken Spiderman's Leopardon robot in a little China (korea??) town that was in Queens, NY in 1980 something

Well, at least one was mocked up for the photo (I'll have to try and dig up that one), but it's likely long gone, either in the trash or hidden away in a "black hole" collection somewhere in Japan (high end toy collectors in Japan tend to be notoriously shy about publicizing their collections).
