You've come a long way Bossk...

Todays toy making technology is amazing. When you compare a modern day 3" 3/4" Bossk to the vintage Bossk it is mind boggling, the advances that have been made.

Admittedly i never really liked the 3"3/4" Star Wars figures when they first came out.I think growing up with the fully articulated, clothed figures like GI Joe,Big Jim and Mego spoiled me to those types of figures,so i was disappointed when i saw them.I was also a teenager and i was moving on to bigger and better things. My interests had changed.

But when i saw this vintage Bossk on Ebay,he spoke to me.He said,"Buy me because i'm so dripping with the charm of a long gone era that you will love me" And i do.

I'm going to add him to the handful of 3"3/4 Star Wars i already have and i think i will have to get a few more.I'm not going to go Loco for Cocoa Puffs and try to collect them all. There are WAY too many of these, just a small loose collection of some more of the ones i like.

I was actually comparing a few of these the other day and thought the same thing, although there are a handful of figures that I much appreciate the more simple vintage style to the newer figs
    Looking for:
    • Lincoln Monsters (Any condition)
    • Boxed Mego Monsters
    • AHI Jigglers / Bendy Monsters (Carded and Loose)

I think the vintage Kenner SW figures have a charm that has never been really replicated and are also much better sculpted than many people give them credit for. More paint details would really bring out the details of the Kenner sculpts.

I only have two of the modern ones Bossk and a Sandtrooper. Both were bought for mini 3D reference, because of their high detail for 8" customs i have done and am working on.I did notice what you said about the detail on the vintage Bossk when i got him in hand. There is alot of detail on him that is not painted.

Given the more limited sculpt they still did pretty well. Gotta love that he's smiling!

Yeah, the details are better on the new one, but when you look at the vintage one, look how many elements they got right on that costume. Pretty excellent for the time. Especially when compared to Greedo, or Hammerhead.
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures

I remember when you could send away for him in the newspaper. To a little kid, that was pretty cool.

With the sculpts, I feel, Kenner got way more right than they did wrong. The mistakes were also generally to blame with the lack of resource material they had to work with and some artistic license had to be used to fill in the blanks. All the figures were also sculpted totally by hand. No 3d computer modeling in those.
