And thanks for the Marlin Perkins reference - Mutual of Omaha is people you can count on when the going's rough. My grandpa used to do impressions of him, "While Jim wrestles that ferocious grizzly, let's have a look at....."
^My Dad still cracks Marlin Perkins jokes every once in a while. They always involve Jim being mauled or otherwise maimed by a wild animal while Marlin sits on his duff.

Why no one ever did a parody of that duo, back when people would have "gotten" the joke, I have no idea. I loved the show. But I could never get over that monotone voice of Marlin Perkins narrating an otherwise dangerous encounter involving his "buddy" Jim. It would be along the same lines as listening to Tom Landry do a play by play of WW II.
I think Jeffy Foxworthy may have done a brief bit on Wild Kingdom in his stand-up at some point, and Ren and Stimpy poked at it a bit, but I really can't think of too many others ripping on it. Really surprises me SNL didn't do one, back in the originals heyday.
My Mom used to do a lot of sewing. She would buy plain denim shirts for my Dad and me and then embroider a lion or a horse or something cool on the back. I was totally rocking it in the 70s.
