    Space Lego Love!

True Confession time: As much as I go on and on about vintage Space Lego sets, I a) never had any as a kid (save for one small set I bought with my own money) and b) don't have any now.

However, I am luckily married to a Space Lego collector and with the help of my daughter, I now have this scene to look at every day while I work on this blog.

I honestly remember going to the house of the biggest wiener on my block just to play with that ship pictured above. He was a year my junior and often slapped my fingers if i played too rough with it. I took this abuse, mostly because of the Lego and that even at nine, I knew life was going to be hard for him.

What I love about these sets is the spacemen are just so happy with their toils, everybody is smiling!

This is not the first Lego display my wife has set up in my office but it's been three long years since I stumbled in the dark and knocked over the castle. I still feel bad about that...

I had the rocket ship set, and still do. My daughter and I put it together last year.

I can honestly say I have no recollection of having any "sets" but I do remeber having legos.

The power of Lego is enduring. I had one big set when I was a kid, and I dearly loved it. Fast forward to 2013, and my kids are fanatics. The sets have evolved since the 70s and offer a lot of cool new stuff, but for me it's hard to beat the primary colors and basic klunky classics.

I had a lot of Lego as a kid, but only one small spaceship. But a friend of mine had a massive set of space Lego, it was quite impressive and so is this set

I was never into building toys as a child, but I do like Legos now. I don't like "sets" however. I just like Legos you can make into interesting things. My Legos consist of a mosh of space, castle and plain ole Legos. I don't have Lego people, but I do like Playmobil, Kubricks and Mini Mates as Lego people.

I remember when I was a teenager, and Return of the Jedi came out, and my little half brother was about 5, I think. We were fooling around w/ his Legos, and I made a Speedo Bike. He was duly impressed. He would tell any of his friends that came over what magical thing his older sister could do. Pretty soon, they started coming over w/ their Legos, begging me to make them one. I finally had to tell my kid brother that if he didn't stop, I was gonna start charging his friends for the privilege.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

I weirdly got into space Lego when I was teenager and have a number of the small moonbuggy type sets. Those landing-pad and cratered bases are cool, I don't remember those.

That is killer. For Christmas when I was 6 or so, my grandparents gave me a huge set of Legos, designed to make large tractor trailers and other large trucks with. It was a little over my head, BUT, I could make about anything I wanted with those sets. I started buying the small Lego sets, and had a few police, but most were the small space sets. Being a Batman fanatic, I concocted the adventures of Spaceman and Spaceboy. I know, I know. Real original.

That little red astronaut is still Spaceman to me!

Hey, classic space still rocks! This display is fabulous and reminds hours of play a long time ago in galaxy far away. It's nice to see all those sets in so good condition and greatly displayed, congrats to your wife, she's a real legomaniac

What's really cool about LEGO is that a lot of the pieces they created for those sets have been re-purposed again and again and again over the years. The stuff we buy for my daughter now uses many of those same pieces in very different ways.

                        Hmmmm....

I hate seeing displays like that, 'cos space Lego has been one of them things I've been fighting the urge to collect. If I ever get the Galaxy Explorer.... which is the biggest of the sets I'd want.... it'd be all over. I've even drawn up plans for a display stand that'd be real easy to build.

Anyhoo; you're not helping, with fantastical pics like that!
