    Release the birthday Kraken!

Christopher Elam of the great blog OWARI submitted this great bit of 1981, this being his ninth birthday he has received the Mattel Kraken. Being of a similiar age, I wax fondly at those blockbusters that diverted our attention from Star Wars, albeit briefly...

I had a full set & oh, how I wish I still did. This film was one of the favorites of my youth, watched ad nauseum on HBO.

The Kraken was truly an awesome toy.

I loved that movie, I remember talking my mom into dropping me off at the mall movie theatre to watch it by myself while she went shopping. I was already a Harryhausen fan because of the Sinbad movies, so I thoroughly enjoyed all the stop motion monsters, plus some flashes of PG-rated nudity. I never got any of the toys, but I would love to own a boxed Kraken one day.

          Great!
Had all the figures as a kid, but not Pegasus or the Kraken. Hardly saw the Kraken in any stores back then, IIRC.
Always wanted a Zeus figure and at least one of the Stygian Witches, too. A large size Medusa would have been awesome, and a giant scorpion for Perseus to fight.

I loved this movie when it came out. At the time I was exposed to magazines like Starlog and Famous Monsters. Which educated me to those behind the camera. Ray Harryhausen's effects made this movie great. Too bad at this time I was in High School and too old to be bothered with toys and such... Meh!

I always wanted to get him to fight my Mattel Godzilla, but by that time I was moving on from toys to video games and watching late night Cinemax.

Great toyline of my favorite childhood movies. The Kraken is one of those toys I always wished I had.

Would have loved to see the pic in post#1 but it is giving me a 404 page not found

Of the Clash line I was lucky enough to get the Kraken (who is still with me to this day). Great in scale to fight G.I. Joe figures as well as the shogun Rodan and Godzilla

I never had the Kraken, but I had all the others. They were great figures really. I remember seeing the Kraken in a JcPenny catalog but somehow never became overly eager to own it.
