    Major Matt Mason japanse bootlegs

I saw these at a toy show this weekend. Anyone know anything about these? They are relatively recent japanese releases?

Sorry, I have no info, but I was wondering if the rights to these have passed and they are now in the public domain.

I have some of those. I think there are about 10 years old and they got in trouble.

Probably by adding the phrase "adventures in deep space of uranus"...

Yeah, these are at least 10 years old I think and the company was forced by Mattel, supposedly, to stop production long ago. I had heard that for a time you couldn't even list them on eBay as Mattel would file a copyright infringement notice.

Wonder what the story is on these guys. Do bootlegs usually have company information, and a website listed on their packaging. Were these sold in Japan (the 580 in the square on the back is formatted how prices are often printed on Japanese packaging, so it looks like this was selling for 580 yen in Japan), but if so why does the rest of the packaging almost exclusively use (seemingly very tongue in cheek) English phrases.

Is it wrong that I can't stop giggling at this?

Imagine how the Japanese guy was laughing when he put it on the backer card, after a bottle or two of sake...

The asian market often doesn't seem to understand "copyright". Or they just ignore it and see what happens. No so long ago, an official version of Leon, the Professional was released. All quite legit. Now another company releases an almost identical set "Perfection Killer", and the company proudly displays all its info on the box. They even use photos of the Reno movie.

That's a "thing" in Japan- use English words/phrases on shirts, advertising, etc. Often the words used are random weird words thrown together that make no sense with each other or are supposed to be humorous.

Of all the planets they could have sent that intrepid explorer to, they just had to send him deep into uranus...

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

In my browser bookmarks I found a website that has a lot of info on Major Matt Mason.
There is also a page for the Leadworks figures:
