1962 Sears Christmas Wish Book Catalog

Over the weekend I went to a local book sale, which involved a warehouse of 40-50 pallets of boxes full of books, paper, & old magazines. a great big book scavenger hunt, it was totally cool & fun. While 75% of it was of no interest to me (lots of ancient textbooks, music books, religious themed stuff), I came across a box of old catalogs. And mixed in with the 90s JCPenney stuff, I found two old Sears Christmas books, one from 1962 and one from exactly 20 years later 1982.

I spent a fun evening with my wife reminiscing over toys & clothes, and more than a few "I had that!"s and "Oh, I need to find one of these!"

Thought I'd post some selections here from the '62, and i'll get to doing some from '82 later on in another post.

Some points from 1962...It was interesting to see how many pages of books, crafts, hobbies, and the like were in there. Also puppets- my gosh, 4-5 pages of puppets! and you will note how popular the western was on TV, reflected in the fashions...

Anyway, enjoy the following. I don't believe they are in any particular order, mixing toys, fashion, & all:

    Talk about matching outfits:

    Top of the line televisions:

Sexy nighties for your wife- just like Mary Tyler Moore wore on Dick van Dyke!

    Ah, Marx playsets!!

Costumes for kids- you'll believe a child can fly!!! And just try & buy a Confederate soldier uniform today other than a reenactor shop!

Here's something you don't see anymore- pillow animal jammie keepers. Boo-Boo Kitty just like Shirley Feeney's!

How cool is this? How did I not have one of these, and where can I find one now?

Those Sears catalogs are a treat, theres a website that has a good deal of them, but real ones are a fun find. The early sixties is definately full of more western oriented stuff. Lots of Disney to, right?

The 1982 catalog I actually had. I use to look thru it and tell my parents which toys I wanted out of them every year.
I think 1988 was the last year that they were sent out.

Sorry about that, I thought the photos would enlarge when clicked. I'll try and fix it shortly.

                    Heres the sears catalog site.

Somewhere around the house I have a reproduction 1908 sears catalog (reprinted in the sixties). I'll try to hunt it down and show some of the toys in it.
