    Gerry Anderson Toy Tribute

The passing of legendary TV producer Gerry Anderson yesterday, put me into a real funk. Anderson created two of my favourite science fiction series of all time in UFO and Space:1999, not to mention a pile of super cool kid's programming in the 1960s.

The man was a visionary, Whenever Anderson's name appeared, awesome merchandise followed. What better way to honour the man's legacy than to take a look at some of the playthings inspired by his output.

Spectrum is green after the jump!

    Maya Costume from Collegeville

Stingray is one of my personal favourites of the "supermarionation" series.

These Palitoy Space:1999 figures are the reason I collect toys today.
The Mattel Space:1999 Eagle may be one of the coolest toys of the decade.

    Amsco Moonbase Alpha

The 1970s "Beyond Tomorrow" play set was actually Fire Ball XL5

Thunderbirds is likely Anderson's most popular program.

AHI was a major 1999 licensor and made an intoxicating series of sometimes whimsical rack toys.

This UFO Ed Straker costume is easily one of my biggest grails.

    Another bit of AHI genius.

Dinky Toys sold so many high quality Gerry Anderson vehicles, often long past the show had aired.

I love the art on the Remco/Burbank Toys Utility belt.

    Thanks Gerry....

Aw Man. That really bums me to hear that he's passed. Back in the day. We got either the UFO series or bundled episodes as Movies. Cant remember which but the show changed my life. I loved the models presented on the show. Later in life. My family stopped at a hobby shop were I recognized the Dinky UFO Interceptor in a case along with other assorted Dinky toys. I pleaded for my Dad to buy it for me but walked away empty handed. Even to this day. I find all of Gerry Anderson's work to be some of the most visually captivating stuff on TV.

I have 3 Matchbox Stingray figures: Troy Tempest, Marina, and Commander Shore. RIP Gerry.

For me Gerry Anderson's JR 21 Rosenthal Thunderbird Toys were my absolute favorite and for good reason. These were the toys of my youth and what I got for Christmas. Some of them also featured on the show.

Me, Christmas Day (also my birthday) 1967 with a JR21 Fab 1.

And with my brothers and sister. Please note how i am eyeing up that Thunderbird 2, soon to be mine bwha ha ha. Also my brother is holding a now very rare $1000 Batmobile.

These are not mine btw. Just random images from google, but strangely some are from old auction pics of mine, so actually were mine.

Very nice family Christmas shot and nice line-up of toys! The Batmobile is a Louis Marx friction drive Batmobile with siren and was based on the 1951 Buick LeSabre concept car, and the one you're holding looks to be a Hoover/Clifford friction Batmobile!

These are mine... I had a lunchbox just like this in grade school and to this day when I look at the lunchbox sitting on my shelf I can smell tuna fish, LOL...(unfortunately this isn't my original lunchbox).

In STINGRAY the letters were actually PWOR. Which stood for Proceeding With Orders Received
