The 1978 Marx Ready Gang Catalog

I'm still learning things. When I last posted about the wonderful Marx "Ready Gang" series of action figures, I pontificated that these old west figures had bombed in their initial year of 1977.

Now I discover that the line not only didn't bomb, it continued into a second year and even added new items to the line.

Yep, Ringo, the Sundown Kid, Black Hawk and Trooper Gibson were all back in 1978 and now they had a covered wagon as well.

As I've posted before, the Ready Gang is easily one of the 1970s most forgotten toy lines and that's a shame as it's also one of it's nicest.

Visit the 1978 Marx Ready Gang Catalog here.

So, was Best of the West still going at this point? The horses in this line look VERY similar to the Garbriel Lone Ranger horses.

I'm with Scott, that town is nice!

The town is the stuff. Perfect for all 9" figs from that era. The Excel Legends have taken mine over.

I don't think any of that other stuff got released. Never seen the wagon or the Black Hawk figure, his horse or Ringo in that outfit.

Maybe in Europe. Need to head over to EBay Italy.

That town is better than the one for Gabriel's Lone Ranger line. (my cousins had that one).

Man, that town is sweet! It would be cool to combine that with the Lone Ranger town for a huge western display.

Nope. It's Deadwood Dick from the old Excel Legends of the West line.

The figures are fairly easy to come by. The horses not as much. The town not at all.

Man, I never even heard of any of this stuff, and a bunch of you guys already have the town and everything! Nice stuff! I agree with Chris that the horses look very similar to the Lone Ranger ones, the only real difference that I can see is that the front legs are attached to the body differently. Are the human figures constructed similar to the Lone Ranger guys?

I got the town for Christmas as a child. The ones you see in the post are one-and-the-same. I sold it to Turnbolt. It was at my parents house for a long time. My Mother wanted to throw it out many times. So glad I was able to talk her out of doing that. I haven't seen another one.

I've also never seen any of the 1978 items for this line. I too doubt that they were ever produced.

How are these figures articulated, compared to Big Jim, Lone Ranger, or Fighting Furies?

                            Does anyone have pix?
