    ROM is back!

Looks like the spaceknight may make a return. The description says that he will convert into other toys. Here is the patent and website that led me to it!

Thanks to a new trademark filed November 7th by Hasbro at the United States Patent & Trademark Office we know that there maybe an attempt to bring back the "Rom: The Spaceknight" toyline. To build interest in the toy, Parker Brothers originally licensed the character to Marvel Comics which created a comic book featuring Rom. The...

Hmmm, interesting. I remember being a fan of the comic, and actually have recently been trying to track down a nice boxed example of the toy. I had no idea that the toy was originally going to be called COBAL (after the COmmon Business-Oriented Language). Is that really true??

Never had the toy, but I did have a bunch of the early issues of the Marvel series.

It'll be interesting to see how they revamp the design of the character, and how much of the classic look they retain.

I'm excited about this! I just hope that ROM doesn't wind up as only being a part of Hasbro's Transformers line, but has his own line of figures instead. I will happily buy a Marvel Universe scaled Rom and Spaceknights, though.

No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

            Hmmmm....

Isn't there some weird copyright thing with Marvel though? I thought they owned the name, but not the robot look of the character.

Rom was one of my favorite comics as a kid. I still have the full series I got back in the day. Always wanted a good figure, but never liked the scale of the old one. It was just too big.

I wish they would reboot that comic series.

Nice cjefferys! Seriously, they could reboot this character with outdated technology as part of his character profile.

I loved ROM way back then, and now he could be a representative warrior on behalf of a lot of us on this board; fighting in a 2013 landscape with a 1979 operating system.

That sounds nice. I have a loose doll but a brand new toy with 2012 technology would be great. BTW will Hasbro produce a dolĺ or an action figure? Of course I would have prefer a Hot Toys version but Hasbro can make some nice stuff too.

Toy companies routinely renew TMs. So, try not to get your hopes up. Hasbro also renewed Silverhawks, C.O.P.S. and Sectaurs in 2009 and nothing has come of it yet.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

It was a fun toy but the biggest problem I remember was there was nothing to the line, no enemies, supporting characters, nada.

The comic had the Dire Wraths, which were great villains. Hopefully this will be a fully developed toy line.

Basically Marvel owns everything they created for the series, Rom's human look, other spaceknights, dire wraiths etc. The only thing they don't own the name "Rom" and his armored likeness. With Hasbro owning both Rom and the Marvel license it's an interesting development.
