    Bat Lab

The mobile Bat Lab by Mego is one of those "I missed a meeting as a kid moments" as I have virtually no memory of this item. As far as I know, I never saw it in a store, nor on television, despite friends telling me they had it growing up and it definitely was sold in Canada.

When I first saw this, it was through the eyes of a cynical pr- teen, who immediately thought it esoteric and goofy. While the image of Batman rolling around in a VW Bus, getting high and catching criminals like some sort of vigilante Jeff Spicoli in infectious, I bet I would have loved this as a kid.

Of course, I own one now....

The Mobile Bat Lab made into this list The Top Ten Coolest 70s Batman Toys.

I think I first saw the Bat Lab in a Heroes World catalog I picked up at a flea market in the late 80s. I had no idea Mego made such a thing. By the time I was getting Megos, it was probably on the way out of production. I have a beater van now, but I need a better one, and a Jokermobile!

This is the first commercial of this (and the Jokermobile) that I saw: (thanks Megotu!)

"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

I never knew the punching glove in the Joker Van was set at crotch level. Hilarious!

I first saw it listed in a pile of older catalogs at the Daycare center when I was a kid. It tortured me, as it was no longer available by then. I never actually saw one until I started hitting toy shows in my late teens.

I don't believe I was aware of the Bat Lab or Jokermobile until I was in my late teens/early 20's. Would have loved them as a kid though, but all I had was the goofy looking Batcopter.

I had the Batcave and Batmobile, but no villains. I remember seeing the Batcycle in a Heroes World ad in a comic, and I wanted it desperately.

I knew about this probably from Heroes World if not a Sears or Penneys catalog. I attempted to convert my Evel Knievel Scramble Van into a BatLab.

As a kid I never owned too many of the Mego vehicles because I was too busy trying to collect all the figures. Some of that too was just bad timing. I loved Adventure Team Joes, so during Christmas I usually went after the bigger adventure sets and vehicles with that line instead of the Mego vehicles. I did get the Action Jackson Jeep one Christmas so I did have that. But the Batlab, while around, was something I never chased after. I never even possessed the Batmobile until I was a middle aged adult.
