    Cardboard Kong

My friend Corey gave me this shot (you can check out his awesome auctions here) and I honestly can't ever remember seeing this cool toy before.

What really perplexes me about it is while it appears to be from the 1970s, it seems to be based on the original film and not the Delaurentis remake.

      That is incredibly awesome.
That would have been top of my wants list, if I'd ever seen it in stores as a kid.

Never seen it but love the looks of it. Not surprised some spin off merchandise made it to the shelves based on the '33 back then.

I definitely remember seeing it, but never had it. Can't remember which store, but I'm sure I nagged my parents about it.

That's really cool. Packaging definitely looks 70's, so perhaps it's an early to mid 70's piece, released before the remake film.

This is the kind of thing that would still sell even now.

              I want one to.

Used to have a huge Kong collection (both '33 and '76 pieces), but never saw this. Strange mix of elements: the Empire State looks weirdly modern yet you've got the biplanes and so on. Says "poseable" Kong but the figure looks very 2D.

Reminds me of the "Earthquake" playset that was out around this time. It wasn't actually based on the disaster film but featured a very similar looking building that you could destroy:
