Yeah I know what the box says but Scorpio is a pink bug alien with a gun. Somewhere between friendly and cute, Mattel made him one menacing looking dude. Of all the rubber Aliens, he's my favorite in the bunch but I'd like to think he was a good guy in the same way Boba Fett was a "friend" in the holiday special. I always looked at the Colorform Aliens as good and bad too since everyone back then seemed to be leery of naming an outright villain and all of them were supposed to be friends. Same with Kreator and Zark from the Sea Devils...Scorpio, Orbitron, Astronautilus all looked like Aliens you wouldn't want to mess with. Besides if they did go in that direction, they'd need some baddies to counter MMM otherwise it be a big planet hoping lovefest. I really don't think that would be the case though. The movie is probably going to be more like Apollo 13 meets Major Tom on Saturn or something like that. I'll see it regardless though.

Also good pick up on the leadworks. I remember passing on them over and over when Earth Science was closing. They were $3 and they had tons of them. I knew they were bootlegs but they were well done. Is it a confirmed # of ten different gigures that wee made? I thought they just did everything at random with different heads on different suits and all.

I heard the Tom Hanks movie won't have any aliens or anything, so I'm not sure if it's going to appeal to the toy demographic. Granted it's so early in the process it's hard to say, but it kinda sounded like a generic astronaut movie.

Mattel's MMM displays at the cons were more for MattyCollector than anything. They were curious if there was a collector market for it. Which is sort of puzzling, because while there is a small MMM community out there, it's pretty tiny. Especially when compared to some of their other properties that they could revive.

I guess if a movie takes off we could see a new line though for mass market, but I honestly wouldn't expect much out of it. Mattel won't even put more than 5 POA on Batman these days for their kid's lines. I doubt they'd put a lot of work in MMM... But time will tell.

If it's not in the same scale as the vintage figures, I'm not that interested.
It all depends whether they want to have older fans as a target audience or not.
I love anything "astronaut", but my aim is to add new releases to my vintage MMM collection, so the correct scale is everything. I wouldn't mind articulated figures, though.

My main aim to get a Jeff Long and a Scorpio, and some more vehicles.

I would want an exact reproduction in repro boxes. I would buy everything if that were the case. Anything else is utterly useless to me. It's like claiming the 3 inch GI Joe is equivalent to the 12 inch just because it might have the same name - to me that means nothing. Of course they can expand on it- or bring back the basic figures as repros and then add on newer stuff if they feel the need to appeal to today's kids, but if it's not a reproduction it's not Major Matt Mason.

Oh and are there photos of the "MAJOR MATT WRESTLING BUDDY" that was mentioned in the lead post?

The problem with keeping it the same scale is inflation. If they do that, there will never be vehicles or playsets. 1/18 scale is the smallest viable scale for a fully pose-able action figure and the largest viable scale for vehicles and playsets, especially playsets, because companies are no longer willing to invest that much into playsets, and getting one at that scale is like pulling teeth out of a Great White Shark, and even harder when it is Mattel and Toyguru because they don't like that scale anyway, so you will probably get your same scale figures and the rest of us will get nothing. Kobayashi Maru.

Considering it was only 10 years ago and the same molds were used, Id say its a better possibility than most that the classic bendy astronaut will make a return. Same mold, different head for each character and different colored suits, Id say Mattel could easily take on that much for the new movie coming out and some accessory packs. I do agree with the recent comment about "early", when everything was full of potential and new. Mattel could even make variant figures with a 2001 SPACE ODYSSEY helmet, that would friggin rock. the restrictions on making anything remotely 2001 ASO is done, I say have at Mattel. I hear you LordMudd, Mattel does not really do 3 3/4 all that well. It doesnt make sense in the long run because you would think that they would want kids to mix it up with SW/CW and GI JOE and Marvel figures. Having it at the same scale is a bonus for stores and for fans/customers to buy and be able to use with other sets and figures that they have. Space sled and Space Station are definately a must. I was looking over the SW DEATH STAR playstation and frankly, it would totally work for MMM. The CA 6 wheeled ultimate vehicle or IRON MAN vehicle --another 6 wheeler, would definately work. If Mattel can borrow the GI JOE ACTION ASTRONAUT mold from the 30th anniversary set (it was sold with a Mercury capsule), flip down visor is there with removeable helmet, so doable it isnt even funny.

Action Pilot Astronaut was available in the thirteenth series (1994) boxed in a G.I.Joe 30th Anniversary Original Action Team boxed set. The boxed set included the Action Soldier, Action Sailor (oran

The leadworks bootlegs did not use original vintage MMM molds. It's very unlikely the bootleg molds are still out there and if they were it is even less likely Mattel would use them. Mattel was not happy about the Leadworks figures.

Here's a comparison pic. The LW body is one piece and the face is less detailed.

All four figures (Silver, blue, yellow and orange) use the same mold. The yellow "Doug Davis" astronaut is also now african american.

All four figures use the same mold which looked to be taken from a vintage MMM "big head" figure. The heads don't turn and they don't have the plastic feet. But other than that they are pretty close. The helmets are spot on.
Mattel pursued Leadworks with a Cease and Desist which made some folks wonder if Mattel was planning to resurrect the MMM line.

Considering the success Mattel has had with decent vintage reproductions of Barbie and Hot Wheels, I could see them backing the MMM line to coincide with the movie. I've been sitting on a boxed Moon Station with precisely this in mind.

If MATTEL were to reissue MMM figures, what do you think they would go for? Great comparison shot Werewolf, which figure do you like better? Im digging the silver but knowing that his head doesnt turn or come off makes it a bit limited, I could see the classic being re done with a better paint job and head swaps to make the crew more diverse. Great looking figures. Thanks.

Anybody have any recommendations other than ebay for MMM helmets/visors and MMM heads? Any help would be appreciated.
