    Take Rocky down a peg

Despite the phenom that a Rocky movie was back in the day, it didn't seem to equate to much in the merchandise arena. We got some action figures (produced at one point by Phoenix/PAC) and stuff like this, which makes all the sense in the world.

....which seems like more than JAWS got.... "more adult" movies
had little hope for decent merch in the 70s.

It's weird how this stuff didn't start to show up until the third Rocky movie.

          Hmmmm....

There seemed to be some lag time between the Star Wars marketing blitz and movie execs cluing in that the same could be done for all movies. So no Rocky merch doesn't seem that odd to me. I think by "E.T." they had that sort of thing figured out.

I wonder how a Princess Leia slave outfit "bop bag" would have gone over?

Not quite. As I recall, most E.T. merchandise hit after the film had kind of come and gone, decreasing the sales potential quite a bit. And of course the Atari video game is legendary in it's lateness...and lameness!
