    Spiderman Web-Shooter

    Greetings,

Does anyone have any info on the vintage Spiderman webshooter from the 70s/80s? It's the one with the little suction cup dart that shoots from a spring loaded mechanism on a wristband and is attached to a piece of string. I have seen pics but only in its package and I've never seen it used before. Does anyone have a loose one they can share pics of?

    Thanks,
    WT

Always wanted that as a kid. My folks didn't get it because they knew I'd use it to try going up the side of our house.

Yep, that's the one. Also came in red. I remember seeing it at a toy store way back in the early 80s. Never had one. Can someone humor me and explain how it worked, what it cost, childhood stories, etc.?

That is one of two from my spidey collection (I'm Derek btw).

They first showed up on the scene around 1975, and the initial run had a red plastic web piece that the later editions did not have:

This is from the back of one of the packages - shows how to put the thing together and wear it:

This was probably my favorite toy as a kid. I would have been 8 when it came out. True story - my mom bought me one of these and we went to my grandmother's house. I went outside to play with it, but did not tie the string on tight enough. When the dart shot off my wrist for the first and only time, the dart went under my grandmother's house and I could not retrieve it. My mom basically said, "tough luck." I had to wait until I saved my allowance to buy another one. I tied that string on tight.

The directions even tell you how to get it off the card. I used to play with that thing in Forest Park IL at GMa's flat, it had 3 flights of stairs in the front for all sorts of web slinging activity.

I shot my brother in the face with mine, never saw it again after my mom took it away.

Thank you, Derek! Very nice piece to have in your collection. Those instructions seemed kind of complicated. Why not just have the web-shooter piece already attached to the wristband? The velcro and all? Oh well, still a very cool toy! I recall hearing they broke rather quickly though. Thanks everyone for sharing! I would have loved this toy when I was young.

That was another product that I remember the ads for in the comics, but I never actually found it in any store. Always wanted one, though!
