Question for GI Joe (carded) collectors.

If you are going for maximum value, do what the vintage Star Wars guys have been doing; when they get an unopened figure on a cut or beater card, they send it in the AFA to have it graded Loose/Uncirculated. Basically, AFA opens the figure for you... then they case up the loose figre and give it an 'uncirculated' (never in public hands) grade. I'm not sure how big the market would be in Joes, but it's really caught fire in vintage Star Wars.

Depending on how fast you want it back, and if you are a 'member' or not... looks like anywhere from $8-$44.

I would advise not taking them off the cards to get them AFA graded loose. The cost would outway the return and AFA graders are so particular with everything that if you do not get an AFA 85 or higher on the figures, they will not sell for very high.

Take a look at this feedback. This guy only does AFA graded toys and he is out here in Colorado. Gives you an idea of what they sell for AFA graded. You probably will have a better chance at selling them higher if you leave them on the card.

EBay's been running free auction promotions pretty much every other week. You should throw them up at a price you can live with parting with them and see what happens.

You either sell it or someone posts links to your auction on a Joe forum saying how off base the price is (still free promotion with no effort on your part). You keep them if no one bids. No harm no foul.
