I used to run model trains as a kid, but am no expert. Looks to be an 'HO' scale model of an American loco.

Found some prices on this list from a shop here, so prices are in Aust. dollars.
Seems that there are 'Athearn' and 'Athearn Genesis' series trains.
Maybe the model you have is on this list- check the instruction sheet for the exact model number/code.
