    Yep, stuff specifically manufactured and sold as collector's items usually end up being anything but. My father buys the Hess trucks for my son and my nephew as keepsakes (actually one to keep in the box, and an extra one to open and play with), but only when he can get them really cheap, which he does manage to find quite a bit. A couple years ago he bought a big pile of them at a flea market and I managed to sell the extras on ebay for him for a decent profit.

      hmm.....no mention of collectible beer steins. I would imagine the Star Trek and Star Wars ones must be gathering dust in a few houses.

        back in the late 90's i had a G.I.JOE #1 that Todd MacFarlane did the cover for. sold it to a guy in china for 100 bucks. i had only paid a dollar for it. at a comic shop that was closing down. that was the first collectible i ever sold for any kind of real profit. my grandma loved those hummel figures everything runs hot and cold who knows we may be using those hummels as currency someday?
