    1940s Superman Sweatshirt Find!

    Hey everyone!

I'm sorry if these threads of mine get a little repetitive--I just love sharing my finds and nobody in my "real world" ever really cares so I always come here to show off my latest scores....

Anyway, I pulled this bad boy out of the rafter of a garage today!

Pretty scarce 1940s golden age Superman sweatshirt! Obviously it's seen a lot of use and the print is a bit faded--but these things are pretty rare and command decent $$$.

    Pretty awesome!

Wow! I’m actually not too into Superman, but a find like this is truly impressive. Great work!

That's amazing. Are you sure it's from the 40's?

Wow, and I thought it was impressive that my 1978 Superman sweatshirt has survived!

Amazing find, and please, don't apologize! I love to see stuff like this. I envy you guys who make these finds. All I ever see at yard sales are newer kids clothes and Happy Meal toys!

Yes, it's from the late 40s. If that print were a little darker and not so faded and the sweatshirt were in a little better shape this would be a $750+ item. As is, I'm not sure. Superman ephemera of this sort and of this age are pretty scarce.....

The funny thing is when I picked this up I was buying a bunch of vintage clothes (I'm a vintage clothing dealer) and I didn't even see the Superman print until I was putting it in the car!

No idea as to the exact year, Tim. I suppose these could've been in production into the early 50's, too. Man, I'm just bummed that the print is so faded......the link that MegoScott provided shows a much better version of this piece.....

WOW! That's super cool! I wonder where these were sold? Catalogs? Box top offers? Radio show prize? Department store? I could just see some kid strutting his stuff on the playground w/ this sweatshirt w/ the Superman comic pins from PEP cereal pinned on it. All the kids would be GREEN!

Faded or not it's just so cool that it survived at all! MegoSteve might have some info on it. Any other good scores in those rafters?

i wouldnt be suprised if this shirt was ordered right out of Action Comics. yea, i think a kid would have thought he was a big shot with one of those shirts on. im amazed at some of the items that were released back during that time period. its hard to believe there wasnt any action figures (at least our idea of action figures) back then. you would basically have to DRESS as the character if you wanted to play! strangely, i think it would have been an interesting time to have grown up in though....

                              WOW, what a find!!!

And, Matt, please do not stop posting your finds. You're one of the few who still regularly hits all these estate sales and flea markets and finds some really stuff. I'd have to imagine for any collector or just fan of nostalgia, your finds are the reason we do what we do. Thanks so much for sharing them.
