    We've got wounded!

Eventhough it's pictured in the 1977 AHI Catalog, I somewhat doubted this M*A*S*H emergency helicopter got made. Not because it isn't totally logical (makes a HELL of a lot more sense than this) but because toys based on M*A*S*H never seem to be all that in demand.

So, I nearly did a spit take when these came on Ebay and I acted like it was better than a MIB Venus Space Probe. Fortunately for me, I got this for a completely reasonable price. This kind of discovery gives me hope that more oddball rack toys made it out the door that I don't know about.

What does the pilot look like? Is it a dead-on likeness of Alan Alda?

Seriously, this is cool. But I really can't imagine kids wanting to play MASH. When I was a kid, MASH was on, but I didn't get it. It was totally over my head.

I like MASH, and my ex-hubby kinda reintroduced me to it, but I really don't watch it that much anymore. But strangely enough I have a MASH video game. No lie, from one of the companies that made games for the Atari 2600.

A pal of mine had some of the M.A.S.H. figures in his shop a few years ago, and they were interesting ... but yer, I never understood the logic of making toys or figures for a show that was really aimed at an adult audience.

"Soars high in the air!"... Glad they made that clear so I didn't try to burrow into the ground with it.

You got to feel sorry for the kids that got the figures at Christmas time. The other neighborhood kids would be bragging about the new G.I. Joe figures they got and the one poor kid that would have to say they got Klinger. In a dress.

I dunno, all the sudden I want some 8 inch MASH figures.

Groovey helicopter, is it re-purposed or a unique item?

Don't forget the Batman one! I had Batcopters and Spidey copters as a kid.

Yeaaah, MASH was never a prime show for toys, unlike S&H, Waltons, Happy Days, etc..

'Hogans Heroes' would have been much more lucrative, even as a 70s rerun, as was Star Trek....

I had no idea that even existed. I think it's really cool and a MASH copter does make sense but as a little kid I still would would have prefered the Apes or Heroes ones.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

The copter is way cool - I LOVED MASH as a kid. We watched every week - it is the first fiction show with substance I watched. (no, Batman was not substantive)

and yes, this toy makes sense -as you point out so many do not

I also have the MASH atari game - it is one of the better games. for those of you who haven't played it, it has 2 parts. first you bring people in in choppers then you play Operation.

I had a Batman version of that copter when I was a kid. I was playing with it outside one day and having so much fun that my dad wanted to have a go...

So Dad yanks the ripcord on the launcher, the copter soars onto the roof, never to be seen again, and the launcher falls to bits, crushed in his hand.

                              Thanks Dad
