Yeah, that's b/c by the time the Intruders came out, oil prices were going up, and plastic was expensive to make, which was the eventual demise of the AT line.

The Intruder was toward the end of the AT line when things started getting comic-booky with the additions of Bulletman and Atomic Mike Power....

I'd really like to know what Hasbro was thinking with him, he's a weird off the wall idea.

Bulletman was a retaliation against Mego Superheroes and Atomic Man is a no brainer but I can't think of any specific 1976 interest in an extra terrestrial cave person. Unless they were trying to do some sort of Bigfoot thing?

That Intruder figure doesn't even looks like it belongs to that line of Adventure Team.

I think someone suggested that a while back.... that the Intruder is a Bionic Bigfoot riff. Weird how his head looks like a de-evolved Joe, and his harness looks like the SuperJoe Commander light pack.

I think it's important to know shows like the Wild Kingdom were very big back in the early to mid 70's. Shows about tracking wildlife and going to remote parts of the world were all the rage. So in many ways GI Joe was a reflection of that. It was National Geographic on steroids.

Yet in many countries they still made a 12 inch gi joe type line up until 83 when the gi joes went 3 3/4. I personally believe they changed the format in the US to compete with megos.
