Cool!
My favourite MOTU incarnation was the one which predated the DC mini-series and the Filmation cartoon.
It was from the original booklets which came with the early figures, where He-Man was a sort of wandering Conan type character, with no Prince Adam alter-ego.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

I agree--I loved the original booklets (they really were more picture books than comics) and their stories with a somewhat different continuity. I had those for a while before I saw the cartoon, and I appreciated the potential for that back story.
I also thought the earlier mini-comics were a little better than the later ones in terms of the world they suggested.Hugh H. Davis
Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters.Comment

Wow! this looks so awesome....I hated the cartoon but loved the toys to this day still have my Beat up He-Man figure
and I personally liked the second animated series in the early 90's unlike the stiff boring Filmation version. The toys for this show sucked but He-Man fought more..

It is kind of funny how the concept evolved... Which is why so many people are laying claim to it.
Just look at how odd the Teela/Sorceress thing was in the beginning and how the MotU Classics line is doing backflips tp sort out all this continuity.
Although the fans getting Battleground Teela made is cool.Comment

unreal. the reality is they all just want a piece of the pie. as a kid I liked the HeMan cartoon but as an adult can't sit through one episode.Comment

I always thought this was cool; pages from an unfinished, unreleased MOTU comic from back when the line was first released.
It shows a completely different origin for He-Man.

Was this the original version of the DC mini series? Like I said before, the preview for that mini was the first time I ever heard of Prince Adam, King Randor and all of that. The Filmation show was probably in production at the time.
He-Man was somewhat like Captain America here. It's been years since I read the original mini-comics, but I seem to recall that He-Man got his strength from his harness in at least some versions of the story.

The lost comic is widely believed to either predate the DC mini-series, or have been developed roughly around the same time.
Rumour has it that it was going to be published by Western Publishing Company (which incorporated Whitman, Gold Key Comics and Golden Press), a company which Mattel actually owned briefly around 1982.
It's been confirmed that the paper was the same as used by Whitman at that time.
So, it could well have been Mattel's first draft of an "in-house" produced full length MOTU origin comic, before they licensed the property to DC.PUNY HUMANS!Comment
