Lately I've been picking up a few different models and having some fun putting them together. Mostly from the 70s and on up to current ones. So what do you do with your models? Build them up or keep 'em boxed?

I build them. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return... -
I'm so glad I never found the Captain America model as a kid, because he was my all-time favorite, and I probably would have screwed something up..
That being said.., I'm lookin' for a good price on the Morbius 60's re-released Spiderman box, just to mount up on a wall.. Probably can't afford an acrylic box to really showcase it, but that's fine.
I was hunting around a few years back for a decent first-issue AMT Klingon vessel.., just for the retro logos and large packaging, which I believe they've re-produced now..(??).
I know I'll probably grab the reissued AMT Spock one, probably my first sci-fi model.
I'm not set up to build models anymore.., I'll just buy a professionally airbrushed one on-line if I'm really interested.

If they are repro kits in repro boxes, I keep them boxed. Otherwise I don't buy models, unless they are of something really cool- like the Jupiter 2, Seaview, War of the Worlds ship, or something, in which case I build them.

Models need to be built.
Otherwise, they're just a bunch of useless parts....

Depends on the kit. Sometimes I like to keep them boxed and unbuilt - especially if there are more recent re-issues I could build. But generally, I buy kits to build... or at least with the intention of building someday. :-/Micronauts Collector, Historian, Consultant

I've gotten models as gifts from a couple of people, but I'm really not into them. Maybe one day, I'll get someone to help me."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

I have a bunch of old pieces from kits that I used to have and along with my other "junk" drawers need to go through and pronounce them junk or put them back together. I did buy the K-7 and Enterprise re-releases and am holding them to put together with my son, once he discovers model kits. Hope to find the Klingon, but right now it just seems to be in a collector's tin, and I don't need that. It's all good!Comment

Build 'em. I have a complete set of Aurora Comic Scenes I've been working off and on building. I want to get the reissue Wonder Woman to go with them. I also have all the Polar Lights Marvel and Batmans waiting to be built.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment

I bought my dad a model one year for christmas because he used to build them when he was young but has since forgotten how to be young. very sad. i thought we could build it together or he could do it with leisure time (he was 57, i was 30) - never happened
sooo
i saw a 49 merc coupe on sale at target a few years later (his first car that he talks about incessantly)
i talked to his brother, sister and mother about specifics of HIS car. I built the model to match his car -that he has no pictures of.
he opened it and had that look of "i didn't build the last one. why did you give me this?"
i said - open the box.
he did and it was a 49 coup with identical paint job, shaved chrome, hub caps, missing gril, engine, 3 tone shag carpet, seat covers color (to match the ones he made by hand). everyhing i could think of to remake HIS car
he was in awe. that was over ten years ago -to this day it stands prominently placed in his office.
this was the finest model i have ever built.Last edited by Brue; May 23, '11, 11:04 PM.Comment

Yeah, I buy kits with the intention of building them someday. After losing my job last spring I took some time and built the new Viper MkII and Fantastic Voyage Voyager kits. I also got the new BAG Galactica. I want to paint them some more but living in an apartment doesn't afford me the space I need to airbrush or spray paint model kits.Comment

Both! I have a healthy stash of unbuilt kits that I can delve into whenever I want.
I did sell off a bunch of unbuilt kits a couple of years ago, basically stuff I'd lost interest in, or knew I would never get around to building.Comment
