You know what? This site sucks.

I am finding it very very difficult to resist the pull.

The pull of my brain when thinking about stuff germinated from viewing and participating in discussions here.

Play-Doh, Weebles, Fisher Price, Matchbox, Mego, Capsela, Kenner. It's all coming back to me, the stuff I had as a kid...and I want it all NOW. Packaged. As a part of my collection.

Having these thoughts while unemployed is challenging my will to resist.

Very very corruptive, this website and its forum.

    :D

    Peace,

    Chip

You'd be surprised how looking at your bank statement cures you of that! 8-)

I've survived a divorce and bankruptcy and sold off almost all my action figures and comics to pay for it, most of which I had been keeping around since the late '70s. I feel your pain.

But you save up your spare change, hit the flea markets, thrift stores, comic conventions, and just start small... like when you were a kid and it took a month to save up your allowance for the Millennium Falcon.

I know what you mean, and like you said, it's not limited to Megos. When I first joined, within a couple months, I had gotten Mattel's Hypnos, Gabriel's Lone Ranger and Tonto w/ their horses, Ideal's Zem 21 and Knight of Darkness, a handful of Kenner's large-sized Star Wars figures, Hasbro's Charlies Angels, and quite a bit of SMDM stuff. This is after I hadn't really bought anything for a couple years. It just made things seem acquirable that I didn't seriously consider before.

One of the biggest pulls for me here is the great monster stuff that everyone posts!!!! I never had much of it as a kid and have only lately picked up a few items but oh how I'd love to collect a lot of it!

The great thing about the site is how much shared knowledge there is here, whether it's about Mego history, 60s-80s toys in general, customizing know-how, whatever. Definitely the most fun section is Toy Room Central. Seeing how others have their stuff displayed is eye-opening, and gives me lots of ideas. Very creative group here.

One really great thing about this place though is that it's all free to look! Plus you could make your plea in the card forum and start collecting again from that angle.

I call it "Plastic CRACK"! The trick is to make money while you collect, Buy large lots, keep what you want, sell the rest. Buy stuff on Craigslist, flea markets garage sales and sell it on E-bay. I work 50-60 hours a week and a single father of 3. I find time to do it and actually come out ahead.

Yep I know your pain. I've been layed off since the holidays. So while going from one job interview rejection to another. I've been doing the thrift store shopping in between. I have to sell my finds instead of keeping them just to keep afloat. I try not to get jeolous of those who post about how they can afford a MIB GI Joe or SMDM when I'm struggling to pay rent. But thanks to this site. When I find like a Panthro Nunchuk at Goodwill. I now know what it is and that it can get me needed funds so I can eat and live another day.
