Kind of ingenious item, take an existing horse mold (most likely from Johnny West) paint it black and use the public domain good will of Anna Sewell. I'm surprised more companies didn't offer Black Beauty toys aimed at girls.

As an aside, my sister loved horses and every birthday party she got two copies of the book minimum. It was kind of a running gag.

I must admit, I expected the Green Hornet car. But it's a nice horse.

Yes, that *is* the same design as the Johnny West/Best of the West horse "Thunderbolt"... The horse was molded in black plastic, not painted... This "Black Beauty" version has different riding gear though...

The black version of the horse was also sold in a "boxed set" that featured a combo of Sam Cobra and the horse...
