Vintage Toy Store Pictures Part Ten

I cannot think of a better update for our fifth anniversary other than doing another vintage toy store update. When I set out to create the original vintage toy store gallery for the site, I never imagined I'd get to part 2 let alone roman numeral X!

Being a toy nerd this is my favourite section of the site and I love that I've unearthed this much goodness and that it's touched so many of you.

As sequels go, Part ten does not disappoint with plenty of iconic toys spotted on the shelves, We've got Micronauts, Star Wars, Mego 2XL and Star Trek, Tonka Trucks, Janex talking alarm clocks, Dinky cars, Dancerella and a few more suprises!

Click Here to visit Toy Stores Part Ten

And if you haven't already check out parts 1-9:

When I see these threads it makes me want to bust into the old Ben Franklin building here in town and rush down stairs, hoping somehow I'll magically time travel back to 1979. Sigh...

Awesome! I love this vintage Toy Store series. It's awesome seeing the Micronauts next to the Star Wars toys. Ah, the memories... I wish I had a time machine...

Yet another excellent batch of pics for this awesome section! I get really excited every time I see there's new vintage pics to view. That pic of the SW, Micronauts, and BG toy aisle literally made my hairs stand on end. I love the shot of the Atari games too, I always loved the artwork on the boxes!

It's a shame that there's hardly any toy stores left anymore for kids. I realise that toys and games can easily be bought in the mega-chain stores or online, but nothing could compare to that feeling of being a five year old and looking at the outside of stores like Magic Village or Dispensa's Kiddie Kingdom/Toy Castle. The memories and impressions of those stores and the way they were set up and the displays is just as meaningful and magical to me as the actual toys themselves.

Absolutely worship these sections. Its almost impossible NOT to be transported back as you look through these shots.

Thanks for doing the leg work so we can enjoy some great memories!

Exactly, toy stores flourished through the 70's up until the late 80's-early 90's. I think the years 1975 to about 1985 (give or take a year) was a great time to be a kid.

Now, the only real place to buy toys (in my area, anyway) would be TRU, Walmart, and Target. Even at that, the selection of action figures is small. If you want any of the better toys, you'd have to go to a scalper or an online dealer. Depressing.

My kids still go into awe when I drive them to a TRU, but I do wish I had the "wayback" machine to show them departments stores with toy aisles and privately owned stores that were time capsules in and of themselves since they couldn't rotate stock as fast.

I do love that Micronauts, SW & BG section. That is a winner photo for me.
                          It's all good!

There were some great independent toy stores that were like Aladdin's caves of vintage stuff, years after it all disappeared from the big chains...

I still remember going in one big toy store (now sadly gone) in the mid 90s and finding a bunch of original MOTU stuff from the early 80s on the shelves, literally with a thick layer of dust on the packages.

And shelves full of Kenner's Bone Age figures, long after they'd disappeared from every other outlet.
                            PUNY HUMANS!

WOw those are some big toy stores! THere wasn't a big mall culture out here in nyc back then just a lot of smaller mom and pop stores. THere was PLayworld though...on the island.
