    Pressman Space Creatures

This cool promotional shot of the heads of the Pressman toy company wearing their cool Star Wars inspired masks was a recent fun find. Lots of companies jumped on the space wagon pretty quick and managed to beat Kenner to the stores. These masks weren't simple knock offs though, they were designed by Dick Smith, the Oscar winning make up artist who influenced a generation of special effects people.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that Zordius mask as a background alien on several 70s sci fi shows.

Cool! I can imagine a lot of kids made up their own little sci-fi plots and some Super 8s came out.

My brother worked for Dick Smith when these were first released (he was just starting his long career in movie special effects then- so this was his first job, my brother would go on to work for Lucasfilm and on movies like American Werewolf in London, Michael Jackson's Thriller, to Pirates of the Caribbean, GI Joe and Tron). He had to assemble a ton of those kits for store displays as his first assignment. I've always wanted to try to get a few boxed for my collection but they don't turn up often.

Wow, I got that Vorkan mask for Christmas when I was a kid. I completely forgot about it until I saw the above pic. Then, BAM, memories of all of those masks suddenly flew up from somewhere deep in my brain. I never did get the whole thing put together, it was really hard to assemble. And if I remember correctly, it was made out of thin, hard plastic. It probably would have started cracking apart after wearing it a few times. But the designs of these are really cool and I recall the boxes looked nice too.

I remember as a kid picking up a Vorkan mask at the local Lucky Supermarket, just in time for Halloween. And like cjefferys commented, it was a challenge to put together; not to mention, difficult to breath in when you're scurrying for candy.
