Vintage toy you most wanted, that was most disappointing...

mine was the mego pocket heroes batcave. paid $400 for it and realized it was just literally some vacuformed plastic. no special features. ended up selling it again. at least got my money back on it.

Well, for me as a kid I'd always wanted "Simon Wright" from Captain Future cartoon. When I finally got one from my Mom I was so desapointed about the size (8") ! Absolutly not the "big" replica like the one on tv

the Star Trek TMP bridge playset....I got the whole set of figures for Christmas that year and then the bridge playset...when i opened it up all I could think was what a piece of junk....thing was probably cracked and broken apart by the next day

I agree with you on that one! I bought that on clearance at Children's Palace for only like $5 or something and still felt like I got ripped off.

I'm sure if I strained my brain I could think of something but the first thing that came to mind was that Super Elastic Bubble Plastic.
Some foul smelling petroleum-based sludgy paste that you were supposed to roll into a ball and stick a straw into and blow these huge "balloons" up out of it. I could never get a balloon bigger than a tennis ball before it popped.
I seem to recall it kind of made a sticky mess too.

For me it was Ice Bird. We froze a brick of ice as instructed, and then struggled with this piece of cr@p plastic ice shaver. I couldn't do it; my mom couldn't do it; my dad could kind of do it, but it took way too much work for a little cup of shaved ice. I think I had a total of 1 snow cone from the stupid Ice Bird, and yes - I'm still bitter after 35 years.

Back around 1979/1980, I recall that there was a "life sized" Incredible Hulk that was supposed to be able to walk. Being that I was infatuated with Hulk at the time, I made this toy numero uno on my Xmas list that year, and had all these images in my head of the amazing play battles I'd have with my friends and my "giant walking Hulk" toy.

Xmas came, and I got the toy, and then realised that it was only a couple of feet high, and was basically one of those plastic inflatable toys like you'd get at the carnival, that attached (poorly) to a plastic base with small wheels, that was battery powered. He moved slow as molasses, and only on the smoothest of surfaces, and had a hard time staying upright. Looking back now at the ads for the toy, I guess I should've realised but somehow I'd built up this toy to be WAY better than it turned out be.

Sounds alot like Marzon; another huge disappointment.

The first thing that came to mind other than the "back of the comic" stuff, was Suckerman. The commercial made it out to be totally awesome (mission accomplished Mattel).

A classic in its own right, Mouse Trap was kind of a crappy game.

Milton Bradley's Big Track was a big let down for me. I was so hyped to receive this toy, put in new batteries, programmed to move in different direction, programmed to fire(large number which I cannot remember) and it started to do it's thing, when it stopped and fired, it jammed up and never worked. I was so ****ed that I brought it back and got a better toy, most likely a SMDM item I did not have.

To this day I dislike that toy, every toy I have was great and I have such beautiful memories, that particular toy has a dark cloud around it. It was a total piece of crap

Ordered a "power ring" from the back of a comic book. Waited for weeks and what I got was a metal ring with a small magnet. Wonder how much money was swindled out of us kids by those ads?
