I have one destroyed one on a semi destroyed card that I got from palitoy.
There's not really any "mint" on card examples as the rubber bands have deteriated on almost all these examples I have seen. Of course there's always the exception to the rule.Comment

I just have a couple of loose Superjoes, but no hands. Trappy Trek Freak is really into these guys and has an army of them, but he uses wrestler figure bodies. He hooked me up with a couple of the bodies and they work very well, but I've never seen anyone who does repros of the original hands. By the way, these figures are a bear to put back together. I've been working on one for over a year now and then and I always just end up frustrated!Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.Comment

I picked up a loose SJ commander a while back that had been rebuilt...not very well but it displays okay..LOL
it used 9" mego hands which are in scale and look pretty good
I have been thinking about starting a collection on these as well but I don't have the patience to try rebuilding them myselfComment

I keep asking this whenever these threads come up but never seem to gain any traction:
Does anyone know anyone who repros the joints and/or hands to rebuild these? Or has a method they can share that really works?
I've also seen a rebuild where they used castaway gripper hands and that looked closer to original but I don't think they come in all the different colors you'd need to do all the SJ line. I emailed and asked them this awhile back but (no surprise) never received a response.
I have several of these awaiting restoration and sometimes I think I should just dump them and be done with it.

I think that a true mint on card example of any of the Super Joes is near impossible to find (except for Gor because he was constructed differently, so he doesn't fall apart like the others do) because even if you want to restore one, you have to damage the card to remove the figure, and I have yet to see a carded one that has disintegrated over the past 32 years. If you miraculously found one for sale, I bet it wouldn't survive through being shipped in the mail.
I bought my Super Joe Commander from a guy who said he had it professionally restored, but unfortunately the guy who did it no longer does so (he said it wasn't cheap either!). He did a very good job, the joints look really nice and professional, just wish he could have went with something else besides Mego hands, they don't look quite right.Last edited by cjefferys; Dec 11, '10, 9:45 PM.Comment

I'm looking for a set of the joints (and hands too but I'm ok with other options on hands) so that I can do it myself. If I knew what material to use or how to make molds I would do it myself but if I can get a set of joints already cast that would be fine. I had a lead earlier this year but nobody ever got back to me on it.
The CAW gripper hands look really close to originals. You'd be happy with those I think. If I could recall where that pic is I would show you.

Thought I was getting deja vu...lol

I've been re-building SuperJoes for several years. They are not easy to do and that's why I charge $25. I provide the hands. I have used Doc Mego hands in the past, but I perfer to use gripper/trigger finger hands from CastAWay. They just seem to look more like vintage kung-fu gripping hands. Here's a couple pics of some that I re-built and a custom Mobile SuperJoe HeadQuarters:

I use Barbie Campers for my custom Vans with custom automotive paints and exterior grade vinly decals. PM me if you require my services.

Bob, that is the coolest post you've ever made. I love SUper Joe. I'll have to keep you in mind if I find some loose SJ parts. I have GOT to have a Darkon.
ScottI almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.Comment
