By the late 1970s, Ideal Toys had a bit of a problem on their hands. Even though Evel Knievel had fallen out of favour with the public, their stunt cycle toy was still a viable product. The only logical choice was to rebrand the toy, their first attempt was in 1978 with Scare Cycles, a neat concept but not the home run they sought.

In 1980, Team America was born and in a wise marketing move so was a Marvel comic book of the same name.

I remember those comic books. I enjoyed reading them as a kid even though they were pretty cheesy.

For some reason I totally bought into those comics, I had zero interest in the toys, I'm not even sure they made it to Canada.

I had the white-bodied rider and cycle. It was a no-brainer, as I still loved my Evel Kneivel set. Later on, I got the dune buggy that came with Lobo.

I always wanted Captain America, but I never saw him as a kid.

Although I loved the comic, I don't remember ever seeing these toys as a kid. Heck, I'm probably the only kid from that era who never had the Evel Kneivel cycle! I remember my friends had it, so I did play with it as a kid, but I never had one of my own.

I had never heard of these until a couple of years ago. As a kid, I had Derry Daring. Some other friends of mine had Derry w/ her cycle and wheelie car, and the kid at their babysitter's house had Evel. We used to love to race 'em in the hallway in his apartment. But it's ashame the EK line couldn't continue.

I didn't even get Evel....I got the Green Mountain with the white Yeti! That was my Evel experience. Course the mountain served to be an alien planet for my star wars figures But....

I remember seeing the commercials and then wanting one. For Christmas that year, I got the Blue bike with the red bodied rider.

It was a lot of fun!

LOVED the comic and the toys. I have the whole series (too short, unfortunately) but I no longer have the bikes. I had one of the regular bikes (blue I think) and I think I had a black Marauder set.......

Haven't seen that commercial in ages! I remember my friend and I trying in vain to get our stunt cycles to do loop-de-loops, argh!
