That's the UK Palitoy exclusive Death Star playset. The UK didn't get the tall plastic playset that we in the US did..... instead there's is made out of cardboard.

Rare is an understatement when it comes to that Palitoy Death Star....definately a "Holy Grail" piece for a vintage Star Wars collector

      Hmmmm....

Yeah; it's pretty rare. Here in Canada we had both versions; the Palitoy one was available from Sears.

That thing is a BEAUT.. It would have been nice to have, back in the day. Both renditions are pretty cool.

My childhood friend Vince had ALL the Star Wars toys, which sad to say was a big reason I always went over to his house to play.. His Kenner Death Star and Millenium Falcon sets were played with constantly..

Also check out the palitoy Cantina and Land of the Jawas vintage playsets. Both are close to the US versions, but have some notable differences!

I see them at almost every good toyshow here, I've owned one or two before. I think it's neat but I preferred the regular version.

Palitoy got some interesting UK/Commonwealth exclusives.

Basically their DS was made because it was decided the US version would have to be sold at too high a price point in the UK.

The Palitoy Death Star, Land of the Jawas, Cantina, and also Droid Factory were all different from the Kenner ones.

They also did an X-Wing without the electronic light and sound features.

I did a post a while ago on Toltoys Kid with links to all the cardboard versions of the Death Star if anyone is interested.

Pretty neat stuff indeed. I am still liking my USA version better though. Mainly because it reminds me of the one that I had as a kid. I clocked many of hours playing Star Wars with that set.
