1982 Gabriel Legend of the Lone Ranger Catalog

The big budget film "Legend of the Lone Ranger" saw a triumphant return to the license by toy company Gabriel (who had made some pretty epic Long Ranger toys in the 1970s). While the movie was a big disappointment, Gabriel once again brought their "A Game" and made some kicking toys and action figures for the 3 3/4" set. Lone Ranger toys) picked up the license to the Filmation Zorro television series and worked their usual magic with a series of awesome 3 3/4" action figures.

In addition to having the catalog, we've got some promotional material for the Western Town Playset offer that Gabriel was doing in 1982, it's neat-o!

Hey, Brian, when you click on the 9" figs pages, the 3&3/4 pages come up.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

nice. I digs me some western figs. The mini resurgence of the western at the time along with the fantastic figures overshadowing mediocre movies is fascinating. Butch and Sundance, Zorro, Lone Ranger. All excellent figure lines fighting for shelf space against the go Joes and transformers in a time where most westerns were set in space. I wish we had gotten some Barbarosa figures.

I have mixed feelings about this line, I love the Lone Ranger, but the crap the high ups at the movie studio put Clayton Moore (TV show long ranger, for the one or two people who didn't know his name ) through, I just can bring myself to get into this line. It's awesome stuff, and I love the Gabriel 70's stuff, but since the little guys are connected with that movie, I just can't do it. LONG LIVE CLAYTON MOORE!!!!

This is how I got my 9" Lone Ranger and Tonto gift sets (with their horses, as pictured in the catalog) I loved those toys, and they got a lot of play. The fact that they came from my grandparents was icing on the cake. I still have my original Silver and Scout, and have picked up a nice Tonto and boxed Lone Ranger along the way.

I have a few of the 3 3/4" figures. They are very nice. I could never find the Lone Ranger as a kid, so I passed them up at the time.

Oh, and Custer and Buffalo Bill were on the train with President Grant when Cavendish kidnapped him.

Legend of the Lone Ranger would be a great movie if it weren't for the lackluster casting of Spilsbury, who needed to have his voice dubbed. And they royally screwed Clayton Moore to boot, as Russ said above. Then the movie tanked. Karma is rough.

Thx for posting! I'm a HUGE fan of the 1970s LR line. You don't hear much about them.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

This has always been a favorite line of mine. I got LR, Tonto, Butch and their horses for Christmas, and I still remember going to visit my grandparents and going into a store and finding Custer and Buffalo Bill. I made a deal to do chores for my grandmother while visiting to earn money to bring those two back with me. The detail (especially on Cody) was just excellent.

Thanks for highlighting a wonderful nostalgia line.

That's cool. I've got most of the 9 inch line including the Carson City playset. I need to take some pics of that stuff and post them here. Here's some shots of some of my mint figures...

I have them all loose on display but still need to locate a LR mask, one Tonto shoe and his guns.

Sweet collection MIB41. I remember playing w/ my cousins Lone Ranger figures, along w/ Lincoln Logs and Marx's Johnny West for the villain.

I have all the 3 3/4 Ranger stuff and love it. At the time I declared them the best made 3 3/4 action figures ever, and they have stood up to that claim over the years. The movie was awful, but the toys were phenomenal!!

I love the 9 inch line and like the 3 3/4 inch line. I had both when I ws a kid. They reissued the Lone Ranger, Silver, Tonto and Scout (9 inch) when the movie was coming out and I got them for Christmas that year. I'm only sorry I was too young when they first came out and missed the other figures, horses, playsets, etc.

Truly, both of these lines were excellent. I am sorry the western waned so in popularity. It's fascinating that there were such excellent western lines from the mid 70s through early 80s even as the genre was stumbling commercially. It would be nice to see a resurgence of both.
