    Hi Ray
Some good points but have you seen this MEGO OOAK CUSTOM Unproduced Cher Sz KATE JACKSON doll - eBay (item 230469663995 end time May-13-10 17:46:21 PDT) and I don't know that palitoy doll still looks like Cheryl Ladd to me.
The barbi benton would have been an interesting doll for sure. I wonder why they didn't make her. Wasn't she a Heffner girl or bunny?

...yep,..all because she was a bunny,..not a good example for little girls even though she was on a TV show,....and yes, seen them,...these are all re-roots/custom dolls,..not prototypes my friend......

I know it's a custom as it was clearly listed but still the base doll was a Slyvie Vartan and it's look to Kate is pretty strikeing.

You know another thought, I've always thought the Palitoy doll also looks like Toni Tenneille but with some changes, the Toni Doll doesn't have ears but the palitoy doll does have ears!

There were a few auctions about two or three months ago that I highlighted in auction watch for some of those Superstar outfits MOC. They were purple Palitoy cards. They must have been something of a rarity as some of them sold for hundreds of pounds.

I had seen one that sold a few months back that went over $2,200.00! Yeah those are the really rare fashions that were going to be Cher fashions but seems like they only made it to the UK for the Super Star doll. It was great to see them finally but I didn't win any of them.

It depends on the doll. I do love a good re-root on a doll that has really damaged hair. It can really make a doll with really bad hair into a really great doll and since mego used cheap doll hair its hard to find the dolls today with really mint hair but use a good doll hair for a re-root and it will make your mego doll so nice!

That's pretty cool. I don't really collect girl's dolls, but have had a major crush on Cheryl Ladd for most of my life, and love the show Charlies Angels, so can totally appreciate your score. I do have a carded Hasbro Charlies Angels Kris.

                              Superstar doll

Hi there, Amazing doll! I bought a doll last year from someone who claimed to buy it at a toy convention years ago from a Mego representative, and claimed that it was the Mego prototype doll for Cheryl Ladd. Mego apparently made prototypes of both Kate Jackson & Cheryl Ladd, but the story goes that Kate Jackson didn't approve her likeness and opted to go with Mattel's more Barbie-like doll, and that Cheryl followed suit and went with Mattel as well. Whether this is true or not, I guess I will never know for sure, but it did explain the absence of Mego versions of these popular Angels. The story of Mego losing the license makes sense to me, with Mattel taking over. However, if Mattel took over the license why didn't they do all 4 Angels at the time instead of just Kate & Cheryl, as Hasbro did with the 8-9" sized dolls?
Also, when Mego had the license & before they eventually lost it, why would they have only sculpted versions of Farrah & Jaclyn, and not Kate & Cheryl? This reality makes me believe that there were in fact at least prototypes of the other 2 Mego dolls! The statement of Mego reusing the molds a la Palitoy Superstar (Cheryl Ladd) and Raynal Sylvie Vartan (Kate Jackson) makes complete sense from a business standpoint. The prototype Mego Cheryl that I have does bear a striking resemblance to the Toni Teneille doll except with Blond hair, blue eyes, a mole on her cheek and the silvery dress. She, like the Toni doll has no ears, which at 1st made me suspicious that she was just a Toni re-root/re-paint, however, thinking about it from a business standpoint it makes sense that the prototype would be different from the finished/tweaked Palitoy version, and being a prototype as opposed to a finished approved product would make use of pre-existing materials which is common practice with toy figures/dolls. Palitoy could have used the pre-existing Cheryl prototype and added ears, which again I never understood the lack of on the Toni doll? Or perhaps this is all wishful thinking and I was swindled big-time by a devious seller, BUT the resemblance to the Superstar doll is striking and helps sway me in this direction: that these molds existed and were re-invented into these other International figures! Regardless, I love my dolls, and hope that it is genuine... if not it is an extremely well-done custom. I just wish that if it was only a custom, the seller had been honest and hadn't charged me so much money for it ($400 US), although the Sylvie Vartan Kate Jackson sold for $600 US and was just a custom ... or was it? If the Kate mold became Sylvie then it might be said to be Original as opposed to outright custom! Opinions/comments welcome & appreciated, Devon

But as iv started before superstar doll is not the Toni doll superstar has a different mouth and bigger head and it taller than any of the mego superstar line iv seen the toni doll right next to superstar there is a resemblance but its a different head superstars head is bigger has smaller smile lines different mouth different eye colour ears and a bigger head mold I own 4 superstar dolls

The doll is taller than Cher (mego doll) taller than Farrah + Wonder woman
She has no name on her head but on her body she has the mego company written on her back , someone said she was a re used other mego doll "Toni"
Not so palitoy(superstar) head is bigger with a smaller nose and a different mouth & she has ears and different eye colour and as iv said the doll is taller
