The 1 thing that puts me off Star Wars Toys

The small size overall benefited the by making it easy for them to fit in ships and playsets. Nobody complained about the lack of articulation back then. The only thing I remember being annoyed about was the laziness that went into certain figures like the cantina creatures. Still didn't deter me or my friends from wanting them though.

The 1 thing that puts me off Star Wars Toys(vintage) :( the figures there too small , don't get me wrong I did collect as a kid and loved them , but once I got my hands on 12 size figures the play value was sky high hours of fun Would the star wars line suffered if they had been issued as 12 size figures? and the original line of Star wars figures was clumsy and very little you could do to pose them .....I am going to start collecting the 12 size star wars line 70s figures anyone know the price for good boxed versions ?

MIB anywhere from 200-1000 dependong on the character. Loose complete abotu half as much. Luckily there were only 10 large size. back then Han solo and luke played with my 12" mego spiderman and my Talking lifelike joe but it was far easier to play with the small SW with the other kids in the hood

I still have my Vader and Boba Fett. I really like the look of the large figures and Boba could be posed pretty well. I remember a neighbor having Chewy but those are the only ones I've ever seen close up. I have a remote control R2 but I don't know if its part of that set or something else.

I still have all mine too - never had chewie but the c3po, ig88, stormtrooper and Darth vader suffer from the same poor design.
the humans weren't bad but luke had rubber hands and could barely hold his saber.
Years ago Lees toy review did an article on the unproduced 2nd run for empire they would have been awesome

Fett is the most valuable because he has the most parts to lose, MIB Ig 88 is valuable loose not so much. Solo the medal was easly lost and there are fakes out there be careful

later the Han was recylced into the Indiana Jones 12"

Luckily there were only 10 large size.

12 actually (if you count the Jawa and R2D2 who were a lot smaller of course )

The Han you mentioned been recycled into the Indiana Jones figure has one subtle difference - the SW figure has brown eyes, the IJ figure has blue eyes.

Not sure about IG88 not been so valuble loose. He is definitely the most expensive - those guns, the bandolier and bombs sure do make getting a complete one very difficult.

Episode 1 turned me off of collecting Star Wars.

Unfortunately, some of these figures can suffer from chemical reactions ("melting"). This can happen with the rubber hands coming into contact with the plastic arms for Boba Fett, Stormtrooper and Jawa. Also, IG-88's rubber bandolier can cause melting where it comes in contact with the plastic body, and same with Jawa (right though the fabric cloak). Just something to keep an eye ouit for when buying these (plus Stormie and R2's yellowing problems).

Can't help much on boxed prices. I have all except the Jawa and IG88 loose. All picked up from anywhere between £8 (Vader, C3P0, R2D2) and £35 (Leia and Boba Fett). All are complete and in reasonable to good condition.
Patience will get me a Jawa for a good price and IG88 will probably be the one I need to spend big on.

The Jawa is my latest find for $57 at an antique shop in Adamstown, PA just two weeks ago. Mint and complete, not even a speck of dust on him! So the last one I need is IG-88. I don't mind getting them loose. So long as they are mint condition and complete. My days of getting these guys in the boxes are over. I was glad to get Luke, Leia and Obi-Wan in the boxes back in the late 90s from eBay.

For Obi-Wan, the price was closer to a loose figure than boxed which was nice since some &^$#^!! cut the proof of purchase from the bottom corner.

As a kid (and now) I was always more fond of the 8 to 12 inch figures than any smaller scale ones. But unfortunately even then I was aware of the practicality of the smaller figures. They were much easier to carry around with you, and lent themselves to being more easy to play with in playsets, vehicles, etc.....and I know personally that as much as I loved the Star Wars characters, what really got me into the line was all the great vehicles and playsets to play with. Ultimately I think that's what finally got me to really focus more on playing with SW toys than Mego WGSH, because there were just so many great playsets to choose from, as a 6 or 7 year old kid you just couldn't help but be lured in. Same goes with Micronauts and Buck Rogers, there was just so much stuff to collect and play with in those lines, it was great. Plus a major factor was the price, since I could get several smaller figures for the cost of one 12" doll/figure.

But really I think it came down to the spaceships and other vehicles/playsets just really being the main draw for kids playing with SW toys. All the cool 12" Hans and Boba Fetts and Vaders in the world wouldn't have meant much in the end if we didn't have a Millenium Falcon or TIE Fighter or Death Star Playset to put them in. My mom already complained about the size of those toys as it was....could you imagine how large they'd have been for the 12" scale figures?? lol

Now, as an adult collector who doesn't really "play" with my toys (well.....sometimes haha), I find myself more drawn towards the larger scale figures because they're more finely detailed and look much better on my shelves and walls, etc. Thankfully we have Retro-Action and EMCE figures, because I really have little to no interest in collecting modern 3-3/4" heroes.

I do think it would have been awesome to have 8" SW toys like featured in the '78 Re-imagined catalog! But still I think they would've inevitably done a smaller scale line eventually anyhow, just like they did with CAH figures.
