The 1 thing that puts me off Star Wars Toys

The 1 thing that puts me off Star Wars Toys(vintage) :( the figures there too small , don't get me wrong I did collect as a kid and loved them , but once I got my hands on 12 size figures the play value was sky high hours of fun Would the star wars line suffered if they had been issued as 12 size figures? and the original line of Star wars figures was clumsy and very little you could do to pose them .....I am going to start collecting the 12 size star wars line 70s figures anyone know the price for good boxed versions ?

Are you kidding? we played with army men which had no posability! the sheer numbers won out over scale and poseability, and the ships were the Icing on the cake. None of my friends had more than 1-2 of the "LARGE SIZE" figures, so it would have been difficult (along with cumbersome) to drag the figs to a friend's to play. You could fill your pockets with them. all of those factors are WHY the 3-3/4 line was a smash! we had something back then too, IMAGINATION!!

the small ones were the best cause they fit in the playsets and ships you could only do so much with the 12 inch versions

Can't help much on boxed prices. I have all except the Jawa and IG88 loose. All picked up from anywhere between £8 (Vader, C3P0, R2D2) and £35 (Leia and Boba Fett). All are complete and in reasonable to good condition.
Patience will get me a Jawa for a good price and IG88 will probably be the one I need to spend big on.

Expect to pay big for Boba Fett, IG88 and Han Solo in a box.

I love the large size SW figures, and am still working on putting together a boxed set. Price really seem to fluctuate widely on them, the best thing to do is track completed auctions on ebay for awhile to get a sense of the ranges they can go for. Of course, IG-88 is the one that's really gonna cost you.

I have a couple large size ones as a kid (Boba Fett and Chewie) but I didn't know anyone else who had any, all my friends and schoolmates just had the small ones. I guess this shows that sales weren't great on these and why they cancelled the line.

I remember in the early days of collecting, the large size figures were the first to start to appreciate in value. But later, the small figures started to take off and the large ones stagnated. If you look at a price guide from the late 80's, large figure values aren't too much different than now, but the small stuff has gone through the roof since then.

Not sure if I'd get any luck in this thread but worth a shot.
My stepmom calls me and tells me she found my sister's original 70's 12" Princess Leia doll but she's naked except for panties. She asked me if I could find any of the clothing/accessories she is missing.
Any chance anyone reading this thread might have any spare Leia stuff (especially her dress) that they would part with cheap?
I don't know what she plans to do with it (I'm sure she's not planning on selling it) but I don't want to spend a whole lotta dough on the parts. I think she might also be missing her hair "donuts" as well. I'll have to ask her on that.
                Thanks for any help.

I can tell you something that might sicken you guys looking for IG-88... Back in grade school around X-mas time you'd pick the name of another student and buy them a gift not exceeding like $3.00... One kid received an IG-88 that the gift giver must have found on closeout...

I know we're in the minority, Karen, but I'm with you on the lack of articulation. Yeah, I played with green Army Men, but never for the lengths I played with Megos. Even my re-entry into Megoville was based on a conversation I had with someone about modern figures' lack of articulation.

Plus I was starting to get out of action figures in the waning years of the 70's.

I never had the Star Wars 12 in versions. I was all about the 3 3/4 figures.

The funny thing is that the large figures have almost the same limited articulation as the small figures (except Boba Fett, Kenner went all out on him). They are a far cry from the articulated 12" figures that Hasbro and Mego made during the 70's. Kenner went the cheaper Barbie/Ken, and blow molded route with these (but I still love the look of them).

R2-D2 from the 12" line is the only one besides Boba Fett that I like better than the 3 3/4" version.

I remember going to Hollywood Toys and Costumes for my 11th birthday to pick out a present. Definitely wanted a 12" doll and saw stacks and stacks of all of them including IG-88s and Boba Fetts! Like a knuckle head I picked out a Jawa. How much I regret my poor choice. I had that Jawa till I was 27 when I gave that and all my vintage figures to a collector here in Seattle when I got out of collecting. DOH!!! All mint and complete too.

The Hasbro Charle's angels figures are very cheaply done , the Mattel versions are a little better , but mego are great .
