Empire Toys Helicopters

I get a lot of confused emails about the Empire Toys brand of Helicopter, for those not in the know Empire made licensed helicopters and vans for properties like CHiPs and Spiderman. It was all kind "wink, wink put your Mego dolls in here" or in the case of the Six Million Dollar man, they didn't even get the licensing but the guy on one of the boxs looked a lot like Lee Majors.

Those helicopters were cool! So were the "Big Wheels". And I never knew that there was a Superman type of "Green Machine". Way cool!

As a kid I could never find the Batlab or JokerMobile at the stores, but the Empire vans and helicopters were always available, and quite affordable, so I wound up owning several of them. Cheesy as they may be, they really enhanced the play value of my WGSH, and I loved all the little extra pieces they came with! Yeah even I thought at a young age that the Hulk driving a van was pretty preposterous, but it didn't deter me from still getting alot of fun out of it.

who's flying Batman's copter on the box? Alfred?? It sort of looks like Jonny Quest.

I am sure I would have gotten the Batman copter if I had ever seen that box in the store. Those type of illustrations screamed "buy me!" when I was a kid.

Even as a kid I never understood why the Hulk had a van.

I had the Spider-Man copter. I don't recall seeing the Batman copter, or I would have DEFINITELY had that one.

Me too, that Batcopter is the greatest. It's the only one that actually makes sense, though it would be neat of California Highway Patrol actually printed giant photos of officers on the outside of their vehicles.

WOW! Those are great! I wish I had the space, I'd get some. Right now, the AJ copter kinda is the all purpose copter for Batman, Spider-Man, Starsky and Hutch, etc. as will be my AJ cycle. But it's hard to squeeze a Mego into the copter.

The Empire Batcopter really blows away the amusement ride-looking Mego model that passes for a Batcopter. Even AJ's copter, which I like, still isn't as cool as the Empire versions.

They are all gone, replaced by Thomas the train. My Megos stand vigil over the island of Sodor now.
