Megos would win out for me. They, in large part, made up the majority of my toys as a kid. My brother and I had a good mix of Trek, Apes, and WGSH - so toy time was Mego time. I had the SMDM and Maskatron, a few GI Joes - but a couple of figures couldn't make up for the mixture of Megos that were available. When Kenner released the Star Wars figures - we absolutely loved them. But still grabbed any Mego (Buck Rogers, the more common WGSH) when we spotted them at the store.

Thats a good question. I Truely Love MEGO but I also Love SMDM and Star Wars. If I had to choose, It would be MEGO. My reason is WGSH, Star Trek and POTA are Amazing lines.

No love for Mattel or Hasbro?
In the early to mid 70s, I think Kenner was considered relatively small time as a toy company in comparison to the big players like Mego, Hasbro and Mattel until they hit it lucky and rich with Star Wars.
Six Million Dollar Man vs Mego WGSH? Which is better is subjective of course. But to be fair to Mattel, I feel, neither Kenner's Six Million Dollar Man or Mego's WGSH were in the same league as Barbie for range of figures, playsets and accessories.plus not to mention transformers

For me it was Mego neck and neck with GI Joe,12 inch tall Joenot any fool 3 incher. Followed by the SMDM.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Play-ability.
When I was a kid, I loved Megos because they could be posed in so many different ways. My SMDM was cool, but I always felt he just didn't have the flexibility of a Mego. As for the Star Wars, the original figures had such limited articulation compared to Megos, I stuck with my Megos. It wouldn't be too long before I made the jump to Atari, so Mego gets my vote.WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.Comment

My childhood consisted of He-man, GI Joe, Star Wars, Super Powers, the Mattel Secret Wars, and -- the last hurrah -- Ninja Turtles. Star Wars and Super Powers were my favorites so I'd have to go with Kenner.
But you want to know something interesting? All of the shows I grew up watching and loving were better represented by Mego.
Star Trek, Buck Rogers, Happy Days, Dukes of Hazzard, Our Gang, Love Boat. (OK... there wouldn't have been any parental begging for Love Boat figures, but I remember as a bored kid watching the show a lot.) And the live-action Spiderman show, with the grown-up Von Trapp kid playing Peter Parker! God I loved that show.
I didn't go completely Mego-less, though. My Mom owned a Fonzie, who was my hero at the time, and on very rare occasions I'd get to play with it. And I had the 3 3/4" General Lee car, but wasn't even aware that figures existed for it, let alone 8" dolls. I did have a 12-inch Spiderman, but he was the only figure I had in that scale, and I was used to smaller stuff, so we didn't get much play time together. I would have been a freak for 8" WGSH, but it was a good year into puberty before I even became aware of their existence... by way of an article in one of the first issues of Wizard magazine.
But if toys could have been kept in "syndication" the way that TV shows are... man, Mego would have been the bee's knees. The bee's... knees.Comment

I liked Mattel's Big Jim, and Kenner's Bionic line was great.

Kenner's SMDM line was indeed my favorite toys as a kid...I was mad crazy about the SMDM...but over time...it slowly started shifting towards Megos...Star Trek, Superheroes, and POTA...just aged better to me than SMDM...and now as an adult...Mego became my number one collecting interest...that's why I started posting here in the first place.sigpicComment
