    Matchbox Fighting Furies Gallery

In 1974, Matchbox toys ventured into the action figure market with the Fighting Furies, a series of well made Pirate action figures that had piles of adventures to choose from. Fighting Furies is often forgotten when discussing 70s brands and that's a shame because it's really high quality stuff.

Thanks to the generosity of Lou Melograna (Megolike.com) and Bill Frost, Plaidstallions now hosts one of the most comprehensivce Matchbox Fighting Furies Galleries on the web:

In addtion to having the 1974 Matchbox Fighting Furies Catalog, we also have galleries devoted to the packaged figures and outfits:

Boxed Figure Gallery including the neat Ghost of Captain Kidd figure

    Outfit Gallery

Did you know there was a second series of Fighting Furies Cowboy figures? No, that's because only European kids got them!

Ad Archive featuring Mason Reese plus rare foreign ads, store displays and even shots from Toyfair 1974!

This is very cool. Gaga4toys just posted up some of these sets for sale a while ago and I finally figured out where a big bunch of my "don't know what this is" stash came from from his pics. Hopefully I can find more goodies here.
    thanks

I just recently purchased a mint in sleeve playset/carrying case, and also the sears ship, still waiting on those, but cant wait. I love all the bits and bobs, it really reminds me of the madelman series, that I used to have in Spain. Can someone tell me, does that western horse really exist, or just a catalogue picture?

Great gallery Brian, always been partial to the Furies! Thanks to Lou and Bill too for the great info and images, I have that Patch but never knew how he came to be before now.

I think I have an Australian issued Matchbox wholesaler catalogue with a picture of the horse boxed, will go digging...

          Cheers,

The Ghost figure is great and crosses over to monster collectors so tends to get a bit pricey. I have one in the coffin box I bought at FX a few years back, one of my favorite pieces.

I don't own a single item from this line but I really think it's fantastic.

Thanks for the cool pic Will, that's the first time I've ever seen a pic of a boxed horse; what gorgeous packaging! I'm not even sure if they were released; I've asked many a longtime collector and none of them have come across one.

I never saw that one, and I kept track of all FF stuff back in those days.
That horse looks a bit too sissy for my masculine FF cowboys, though.

This line rocks shame it doesn't get the love it deserves,
Still need the Ghost of Capt Kidd always seem to miss out at the end and come up short on my bids

Thanks guys! What's interesting is that it is in the 1976 catalogue, where the one on PS is 1974. I thought it was fairly shortlived line but there you go.

I think I have the cowboys loose and incomplete (Will try to get that box from storage today), and what worries me is that there was a cream plastic saddle in that lot originally, and it looked a lot like the one on the side of Sundance's box. Unfortunatley my daughter appropriated it for her Barbies a couple of years ago and it is no more.

                              Yikes!
