    Your kids and coloring books

Since Brian and I share such a love of these things, what I wanna know is, do your kids like coloring books. If so, which ones?

When any of my students or babysitting charges wanna color from these, I just scan the page they want, so my books stay in tact.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Pretty much all of the coloring books I buy for Plaidstallions have gone to my kids, the only exceptions are childhood ones, things I collect (AJ, Big Jim) or books I don't think are appropriate (see Dune). My daughter was coloring in a Benji one the other day.

My niece love Tinkerbell coloring books. She'll sit and color for an hour which is good for a 2 year old.

She also loves Spider-man. I have this Spidey pillow person that's the same size as her and she always hugs him. I've been printing out Spidey line art for her to color when she comes over.

Sadly, my kids don't get into the coloring book idea all that much. When they do, it is all new stuff like Curious George or Disney.
            It's all good!

we dig the coloring books around here. Whenever I find a really piece of line art, I try to scan it in before the colored pencils hit. That way we can use it again or try different colors or whatever. We don't get too many vintage books tho, unless they are thrift store finds.

When I was working daycare and the kids found out I could draw they were always asking for custom pictures. I soon learned to photocopy in the office and hand them out. I still have most of the originals. I would draw while I was supervising gameroom time.

                  Hmmmm....

Kids COLOURING in a colouring book? But....they're potential collector's items!

Funny thing, how many folks photocopy them. I got a few I've done the same for, including a couple monster ones, and a Japanese mecha-girl colouring book. Blew up some of the pics to poster size and airbrushed 'em.

We have a ton of them at the house, but my son prefers to draw and color his own stuff. He only occasionally colors in a book. Now my daughter is only two, but I think she loves to color, so I think she is going to be a big fan.

I've aquired most of my vintage coloring books off of ebay. One question I found myself asking a lot of sellers; "By mint, do you mean the coloring book(s) is complete and un-used, or the book grade: like it was printed yesterday?" Rarly did this question get an answer, and the auctions with no answer got no bid from me.

One seller who did answer, found out just how valuable it could be. She had a vintage Mighty Mouse complete and un-used, She had used the term "mint" in the auction, and wished she hadn't. Nevertheless, she went over the book "with a fine tooth comb" for me. I gave her things to look for to aid in her inspection. I bid $30 and was out-bid by the end of the auction.
Something told me to keep the auction on my watch-page and check out the feedback the winner left. Soon there appeared a neutral complaint. Buyer claimed that the book appeared to be "Trimmed". Since this coloring book was not printed in the US, it's production is unfamiliar to many. Dark grey card board printless back cover, cloth tape spine, and rough uneven page edges. Soon the buyer did a "feedback follow-up", and retracted his complaint. That's right buddy, she didn't wear a blind fold and oven-mits when she graded it. I later won a copy of said coloring book from another seller, for much less than my original bid($15).

Sadly when bidding on vintage coloring books you've never seen, you really can't ask; "Is the artwork any good?" I've got a few vintage coloring books with artwork so horrible, there is not much crayons can do for it.
Yeah, I'm scanner, but not on the vintage stuff. Don't want to damage the spines.

I have quite a few coloring books that I've picked up over the last 10 years. I used to buy them if they were cool, such as Batman and other superheroes, even though I didn't have any kids. My son loves to color in them. I guess all those years of buying them has not been for nothing.

My son loves to color as well as draw his own pics , which I think is awesome. He loves to color in his superhero books....marvel superheros and his batman books. The only thing that stinks is how expensive they are. I bought him a 100 page marvel coloring/activity book and it cost me $8.99. I lucked out when I found him a dark knight coloring book at Target for $2.99!!!

I bought some Dark Knight movie coloring books for some Nephews & they went crazy! They said their Mom won't let them see the movie because they're too young ( I sort of agree ) but they thought I was uber-cool for giving them such "forbidden" stuff, ha!

I'd like to welcome anyone to visit my Comicartfans Gallery. Where parents can find cartoon superheroes designs for the kids to color. Since CAF is a fan-site I do not recommend giving children free access. "Superboys/Supergirls coloringbook" for line-art, enlarge to download.
