Worst time for GI joe

G.I.JOE is still a strong brand......The design team is one of the best in the business, the new Pursuit of Cobra storyline and toyline are a fresh take on an old favorite, I agree about the club's pricing though, but if you want to see something cool, take a look at the Canada JOECON (joecanuk.com) those guys put one heck of a set together and this years set blows the top off of what Master Collector gave fans!

The skull headed guy is kind of neat, but to me this era really marked a departure from the innovative articulation, sculpt/paint that GI Joe is best known for.

It seemed to me like they were trying to jump a trend instead of creating one.

The return to 3 3/4" scale for the 25th line with leaps forward in the body articulation, sculpts and paints really brought them back to the game.

The folks making Retro Mego these days might have a look at the new 25th Joe bodies for ideas on increasing posabillity and articulation.

I know many of us have fond nostalgic memories of Super Joe, but at the time wasn't this considered a failed line? It seems us Mego/Superhero fans are more likely to collect these than the GI Joe collectors which seem to view Super Joe as the awkward middle child between the classic 12" and RAH.

It had everything to do with 2 factors, factor #1. X-Men was huge at the time, so the new joe team was more Herolike. Factor#2. The hasbro/kenner merger Star Wars came back and it was a way to ensure Star Wars Sales as when the companies were not merged the 2 lines were seperate money makers, and sales lagged for kenner in the 80's ...so when the merger happened, they all but destroyed JOE to keep sales high for star wars.

I think the extreme line was a low.

So was Sgt. Savage it was a cool line but it failed at retail patialy due to the lager size on the figures (slightly larger like the Visionaries)

The GiJoe extreme like the 95-2000 Star Wars relaunch were made the way they were due to the popularity of the 5" toybiz lines for Super Heroes out at the time. Thats why they sculped the Star Wars so buff in the beginning to compete.

Gi Joe Extreme also came out during the hight of the McFarlane toys hyper sculpt era.

I heard from some one I know in RI that some of the Extereme characters (Iron Klaw) may again see the light of day in the new format.

Lasty if you watch the Sgt. Savage movie (came with a figure) you saw that The main villan used to be allied with Cobra but severs ties with them in that episode/movie. It was an ok movie but felt alot like Captain America.

are the canade con sets hasbro produced or "custom" work on existing hasbro product by a 3rd party the way the old Desimone joe convention stuff was (based on the small #'s I would assume the later)

Actually, Sgt Savage was a mash up of Sgt Rock and Doc Savage, the Kubert DC run in the 1980s. They switched time travel with being in suspended animation but it was almost identical right down to having a "Fabulous Five".

Never read much Doc savage thanks for the info. So basically Joe K was plagurizing...himself

I agree on the last roll-outs of the 80s Joe series (they were pretty lame..), but it was long after my collecting time. They just milked that cash-cow for all she was worth..!?!

For me, it was the Intruders and especially Eagle-Eye Joe. I used to make fun of it with his bulging eyes, like he had to go to the bathroom real bad, but was trapped inside the bubble...

The 90s series were also pretty lame, except the Masterpiece line, where I could FINALLY afford an african-american painted head.

With the noteable exception of the huge Space Shuttle vehicle for the 80s line, I didn't care for the line after 1974.

I believe they are Hasbro sanctioned customs (they donated the parts used).

Having survived the 90's, I think it's safe to say that ANYTHING with "EXTREME!!!!!" in the title sucks.

To me the best time was 1970-1976 the Adventure Team era and the worst time is 1977 when Super Joe replaced the Adventure Team While the 80s Joes has the Marvel comics and decent tv series i never got in to collecting the figures some of em look really nice mainly Zartan but they have little inrest to me and looking at the stuff from the 90s has to be there all time lowest point

I agree the sculpts got crazy and the paint stinked.

The last Dr Mindbender was a cyborg he had made himself into after being buried under cobra island.

The dudes a disgruntled orthadontist!

What about the Dino Hunters set? AHHH!

Or the Drug Force? I loved the Headhunter guy covered in spikes but it hurt to pick him up!

I think the best 3 inch line was the comic based packs pre 25th anniversary.

Glad the masterpeice provided a Black Joe but Wheres my GI Nurse or Captain Zargon?
